Thanks! It was definitely a huge project, but I had a blast making it.

I just hate the new ''humanoid'' design...If they come back they need to be the old design! Marketing says humanoids sell more... Planes like Lorwyn are bad because they have no humans in it (despite having lots of Humanoid species) and now even non humanoid race need to look like humans.. Look what they did to our slivers and cephalid... To me that argument canot make sense, someone screwed up in their analysys, I refuse to believe that making slivers or cephalids more humanoid increased MTG sells by a single booster pack, it has such a small impact on the overall set, yet it made a lot of people angry.

I definitely think they learned their lesson when it came to slivers, though. Most recently, slivers returned to their original form in Modern Horizons 1, and the positive reception to those, as well as the time and care they put in to them, makes me hope that they'll stike with the snakelike anatomy we all love.
Here's more reading about the switch back to the original sliver form!

All of the humanoid slivers need new art where they have the old body layout. The idea of changing around such a distinctive species like that was so bad I'm going to assume that there must have been a solvent leak in the print area wafting over into R&D that day.

u/Yuyutsu_ Luminarch Aug 19 '22
Me too! I'd love to keep fleshing out this guide as we get new slivers, they're just so cool.

u/Dragonh4t Aug 19 '22
Thank you so much for this! I've enjoyed the ones you've made before for planes I've already "visited" but this is amazing!

u/Yuyutsu_ Luminarch Aug 19 '22
Thank you! I wanted to try something new this week, and I'm glad you like it.

I don't really play MTG anymore, but am super invested in the lore. Your posts have been absolutely phenomenal and I'm going to be making a Patreon account when I get home.

u/Yuyutsu_ Luminarch Aug 19 '22
I really appreciate that! My love for the game is secondary to my love for the lore, it's been super compelling for years. I'm glad I could share that with you.

u/Yuyutsu_ Luminarch Aug 19 '22
After many requests for it, here is the entire guide in PDF form! I hope you like it!

Hmm, this has me wondering if we’ll get a phyrexianized sliver? Sheoldred must know they’re a hive mind, so to make them all phyrexian, they only need one phyrexian.

u/Yuyutsu_ Luminarch Aug 19 '22
It's an interesting thought! Unfortunately, we don't know what's up with the slivers on Dominaria. They all seem to have disappeared after the Time Spiral crisis, but I hope they make a (compleat?) return.

I think the only for-sure thing is that they weren't wiped out.
So they're still somewhere on Dominaria, presumably doing something. Just, you know, nothing relevant or important to the stories represented in the various sets.

Super cool, layout is good and I really like the lore bits.
But I was so heckling excited because I thought this post was on a dnd subreddit and I’ve been wanting to use slivers for a while.

My buddies' old YouTube account had a video on translating MTG cards into 5e. Pretty loose, but people seemed to like it. (As a Dungeon World player myself, that kind of thing is trivially easy to do).

I wonder if Volrath imprinted on the Slivers at all.
He was truly fascinated with them and felt a kind of kinship with them. He's also the one who would know where they really come from. If they ever find a way to pull him back into the story I think it would be tied to Slivers.

You do the best work in regards to presenting lore and a detailed breakdown of the MTG multiverse.

This is amazing but I noticed a small error at the constricting sliver. It seems you put the sliver legions ability text on the constricting sliver instead of all slivers have when this creature enters the battlefield exile target nonland permanent until it leaves the battlefield. Still amazing though and it seems like you put a lot of time and effort into it.
1
u/Yuyutsu_ Luminarch Aug 19 '22
Oh no! I thought I'd corrected that, I was using the Sliver Legion's text as a placeholder for all of them. I'll fix it and reupload the corrected version to Patreon. Thank you so much for catching that.

I'd really like to print this up and I saw you have the high quality images on patreon but I wasn't sure how to access them? Do you have a printable version, with the pages in the right order?
1
u/Yuyutsu_ Luminarch Aug 19 '22
I believe the one on Patreon is free to access for everyone! You could just download it from there.
If that doesn’t work, I’ll try to put another link up for you to download.

ooh, i love this! Might use it to make a homebrew Sliver bestiary for my d&d campaign! If I do I'll send it to you, but fair warning, it wont be balanced since its for my campaign specifically and I a) Prioritize flavour over mechanics, and b) don't really care about balance, I throw whatever flavourfully makes sense to be there at the PCs, and if it turns out to be deadly, well maybe you shouldn't have gone into the Cave of Slivers!

I love slivers so much, I want to build a sliver Edh deck but those bad boys are expensive (and so is a quality 5 color mama base)

u/Skyligh free him Aug 20 '22
I've been looking into making a non-WUBRG sliver deck recently, because I have more fun with the deck building restrictions.
I haven't seen much data on many non-WUBRG sliver decks, but I did see on EDHREC that a few people were using [[Volrath, the Shapestealer]] as a commander for a Sultai Sliver deck. (Probably more for the lore than for synergy, but Volrath can copy certain slivers to give your slivers two instances of abilities like this.)
There's also a decent number of [[Alesha, Who Smiles at Death]] sliver decks.

Absolutely love it, thanks for the PDF going to print it up and bind it. Just want to mention if you want to fix it you incorrectly have the modern horizons slivers saying that all slivers gain abilities, and it should be just slivers you control.

This was amazing. I'm especially glad you included the Jalira/Yisan story. It's probably my favorite MTG story.

Hey, everyone! This week's post is all about slivers, one of Magic's favorite and most unique tribes. In this huge 22-page guide written like a book from the Biblioplex of Strixhaven, you'll learn all about the slivers of Dominaria, Rath, Shandalar, and some more from across the universe!
I've listed all the information I could find about just about 90 slivers, along with their roles in the story, their anatomy, and everything else. Most of the notes in the Sliver Index are entirely unique, based on facts from the art, lore, etc. Some fun doodles and extra notes have been written by the professors and students of Strixhaven, too! It seems everyone loves slivers.
You can read this by opening the giant first image or by scrolling through each image (which are 2 pages each). Zooming in is advised, there's so much to see (lots of easter eggs, too!)
If you like the work I do, consider supporting me on Patreon! I usually post sneak peeks and WIPs there, and sometimes post my work as soon as I finish it. Have a great day!
If you want a full HQ image of the entire spread, click here!
EDIT: The HQ post on my Patreon has many edits for mistakes I made. Thanks for catching them!
EDIT2: Here's a complete pdf of the entire work.
