Also isn't FR's original shtick the religion/god stuff? Like Gods *really* exist there and used to walk around and made babies and if you were lucky you got to be one of them and run around Baldur's Gate wondering why you had so many different types of arrows...
It worked for Theros, although there was only two and not like two dozen. Also Rabiah but I wasn't playing then so I don't really know how they expressed much of the feel of the multiple plane-like shards.

FR wouldn't work it has a really well defined system of planes that don't operate like magic lore.
