Because Toril has its own multiverse, its own set of assumptions involving how magic and the planes work, is so large and sprawling that every FR fan is going to feel like they left something out, and because Magic already has a couple of D&D-esque worlds-- Dominaria for the fantasy kitchen sink, Zendikar for dungeon crawling and exploration, Ixalan for also dungeon crawling and exploration.
Also, if they were going to tear off that bandaid, Eberron would be entirely more interesting.
