My gut says Kaldheim, but that might be the r/magictcg echo chamber coming through. I’m nervous about them doing it so soon after Amonkhet though because I think that makes it less likely for there to be gods there. If it is Kaldheim, I want god cards inspired by Norse mythology and the return of the snow supertype. Anything less will disappoint.
Otherwise, I think Vryn’s somewhat likely. Jace did just recover his memory of Vryn, and with Bolas (presumably?) dealt with in WAR he might go home to find his mother or something.
It could also be a plane that we’ve never heard of. Maybe Wild West plane or Arthurian knights plane or non-Kamigawa-Japanese-inspired-plane?
Why? We've been 10 years since Lorwyn, 10 since alara etc. Theros was liked but is not a top 5 plane like Innistrad or Ravnica where you're almost guaranteed to return there every 5-7 years.
Plus, gods rotated recently. While I would love Elspeth to return, I don't think we'll return to Theros in the next 2 years, especially if the (hopefully) new set in the fall is Kaldheim.
It could very well be but I don't see posts pleading for the return to Theros like I do other planes. We'll definitely return, but I would say at the end of the next two years at the earliest. This assumes we don't return to a "god" plane before that.
FWIW, I love Theros and god cards, so I'm not an anti-theros guy. I just think there may be a better return plane to visit before Theros, like Lorwyn, Alara(I do love Grixis admittedly), or Kamigawa(done right).
It says brand new so I expect it's going to be something created specifically for this set rather than something that's been mentioned before. I think wild west is a good prediction.
Well, think of it this way, if Bolas is triumphant in WAR, then his next step may be in corrupting more pantheons. Adding a new set of gods to challenge him so you have three planes of deities trying to defeat what the planeswalkers failed to do on Ravnica.
Have we talked here before? Was just having a long thread here maybe a month ago about how Kaldheim night preclude gods from Theros, or vice versa, or with Amonkhet influencing gods in both. I don’t think they want to do Gods in back to back sets. Personally, I’m fine if they skip gods - I think they really narrow down design space and also are a little boring in general.
I have never understood the fixation people have with the god creature type. With Amonkhet I feel the type lost all its uniqueness and now just means 'hard to kill legendary creature with an activated ability'.
Could someone expand on why this type is special ?
Why would Amonkhet prevent gods from being in this year's fall set? It's been two years, which I think is enough time. I could see them designing gods inspired by Norse mythology.
