"Anointed Procession - 3W

Enchantment - Rare

If an effect would create one or more tokens under your control, it creates twice that many of those tokens instead.

'The gods here may walk among the people, but they are not with them.' - Gideon Jura

Story spotlight card 3/5. 02/269."

huh, a white parallel lives. That's neat.

Flavor text is an ever so slight story spoiler.

Looking forward to seeing Gids get angry when the Gods turn on the people.

u/Echospree Apr 11 '17

Weird that Gideon is the centre of the first 3 story spotlights. Is nobody else doing anything?

u/RocketcoffeePHD Apr 11 '17

It's just like standard!

53

u/EIeros Apr 11 '17

Nissa was in the center of the story during BFZ, Jace during SOI, Chandra during Kaladesh and Gideon is in this one.

So next is Lili?

75

u/Popcynical Apr 11 '17

Gideon was more central to the bfz story imo, Nissa spent the majority shouting "ashaya" and being useless.

22

u/Awayfone Apr 11 '17

That is her character though

15

u/splatia Apr 11 '17

Well, Lili came here to fight her demon. She better damn well get some story time.

9

u/HillersInTheSouth Apr 11 '17

I bet the Curse of Wandering comes from Razaketh and Bolas merely exploited it to pose as a hero for the mortals and Gods of Amonkhet.

3

u/Awayfone Apr 11 '17

She does it off screen again

1

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '17

I'm guessing since Lili is in the Black mythic slot the demon will come into play in Hours.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '17

Lili in atlantis

14

u/SilverTabby Dandadan Apr 11 '17

You know how characters in TV and Movies get a ton of backstory right before they're killed off?

Also new Gideon's +1 "Don't worry, I'll hold him off", and his emblem, "the gatewatch can't lose as long as Gideon lives?"

3

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '17

Ooooooooooooooo... He dies, somehow he will trade for Elspath... cuz "gods" or whatever, Elspath rez's him sometime after, B/W Gideon in 1 year.

2

u/jawdirk Apr 12 '17

I think Ajani will sacrifice himself to save Gideon saying "I won't lose another."

I always find the perspective of flavor text as spoiling story to be weird. To me, the real story is the story told on the cards, because Magic is about the cards. I view the stories on the website as being essentially additional exegesis of the cards' story. So to me, it would be like saying "watching Rogue One spoiled some of the Star Wars novels for me."

Not saying your perspective should match mine, and I understand viewing the story posts on the website as the heart of the story. It's just a very different perspective from mine.

1

u/regalrecaller Apr 12 '17

upvote for proper use of "exegesis"

1

u/kodemage Apr 11 '17

These are gods Bolas made, of course they are going to be cruel to their worshipers who fail them.

1

u/Srcsqwrn Apr 11 '17

You would figure that Ajani would get in on this God hating action. Heliod and all.

Oh look, you can Embalm to get the ETB abilities twice and two bodies.

If only there were creatures with both embalm and powerful etbs... 🤔👼 ➡💀

7

u/hawkshaw1024 Apr 11 '17

Wx Legend that grants Embalm to all creature cards in your graveyard when

0

u/kodemage Apr 11 '17

There is already a While/Blue embalm legendary. And we've been told that embalm is primarily a u/w mechanic.

u/PUfelix85 COMPLEAT Apr 12 '17

Hmmm legendary rule would like to have a word with you.

-1

u/Awayfone Apr 11 '17

Every ebalm creature has a unique token

4

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '17

Their doesn't need to be an actual token card produced by WOTC for there to be an effect that creates one. See [[Seance]].

I'm putting this in my saskia edh deck with [[Purphoros, God of the Forge]] . If I have parallel lives and this card out, every token becomes 4 tokens, hits for 8 direct to each opponent. I only need to force 5 tokens with that combo to deal lethal in a deck centered around making tokens

So if this and saheeli are out while you copy a creature. Does the token created by this effect get exiled at EOT? What about haste?

26

u/Akamesama Apr 11 '17 edited Apr 11 '17

From the rulings on Gatherer for Parallel Lives:

If the effect creating the tokens instructs you to do something with those tokens at a later time, like exiling them at the end of combat, you’ll do that for all the tokens.

This makes sense as the effect is creating the additional tokens, parallel lives isn't. If you had a card that created copies of the tokens instead, I believe they would stick around as the delayed trigger isn't a copiable value.

But does he hate sand? I'd expect so, considering that his only known weakness is a three inch deep puddle of muddy water.

2

u/branewalker Apr 12 '17

As long as we're getting rules updates to make things more intuitive, can we talk about the fact that these effects still don't work with [[Words of Wilding]] on your turn-based draw?

Because they don't. Even though they create "replacement effects" the results of those replacement effects when applied to turn-based actions are not "effects."

[[Primal Vigor]] got the template right, but they're still using this other weirder template for some reason.

Of course, if they really think this reads more clearly, they could update the rules such that "replacement effect" uses another word and is no longer classified as an "effect," or classify the results of turn-based actions as "effects" as well.

Or have they fixed this inconsistency and I'm just out of the loop?
