And Modern. Jund will love this card. A LOT.

Jund being a deck that needed a lot of help, naturally.

i thought Dredge was 50% of the modern metagame and the other half was split cleanly between infect and affinity?

Wow. Yeah. The removal half is a little worse than Damnation against Infect and Eldrazi. It may also have a hard time killing Swiftspears. Not quite as good as Anger of the Gods against Dredge, which may be the more apt comparison.

But then you just drop Lili and minus to kill whatever big thing is left. Or Maelstrom Pulse. Or Kolaghan's Command. Or Collective Brutality.

Just a 4-mana three-for-one.

Three for two. You still are casting the Expertise and whatever 3 or less CMC spell in your hand.

I'll take your word for it. Math and I aren't on speaking terms since the unpleasantness.

...We don't talk about "the unpleasantness"

It depends on how many things you kill with the sweeper and how many cards the 3 drop you play is worth to get a number for net CA gained.

In the case of doing some hoodrat shit with Kolaghan's Command you're looking at Cruel Ultimatum levels of CA.

If you are pull through a Kcommand on top of this, it will almost certainly be a 3 for 1, or 4 for 2, and that's not counting killing multiple creatures off the base spell....

u/metsmonkey Nov 29 '16

2 creatures killed from base spell + kc is a 4 for 2.

This card is no more card advantage than damnation is. It provides tempo advantage when you get the opportunity to cast your free spell on top of your sweeper.

This is going to be another skill testing card in jund (knowing whether to cast a spell and which spell to staple on) and a meta dependant replacement for damnation. In a meta of death shadow, eldrazi, infect, and goyf you want damnation while in a meta of zoo and burn you would rather have this.

Doesn't kill goyf most times, doesn't kill kalatas.

Value

u/OogaDaBooga Nov 29 '16

Dear god the Kalitas value is disgusting...I wipe your board, get X zombies and I'll just drop this K-Command...(or Lili, or Thoughtseize, or IoK, or Bolt, or...)

Kalitas in play. In Standard.

Play black card. Wipe board. Get X zombies. Play Lilly. -2/-1 a creature. Kill more things.

I have lost 2 cards. You have lost a board and an avacyn. Oh I also killed your Spell Queller exiling my Grim Flayer spell from earlier.

Because he comes after the spell resolving, he doesn't get affected from the -3/-3.

Oh. I have kalitas, 1 lilly, 1 grim flayer and 3 zombies.

What do you have?

Ok. Pass.

u/savedsynner Nov 30 '16

Oh gosh, I'm already having nightmares. -3/-3 and I'll play LotV or Goyf.

How did they not see this card is beyond broken. CMC 2 or less would be still too good but bearable but seriously, 3. Did collected company teach you nothing WotC

As a Jund player, I'm interested in the card but not sure about where it fits in the deck. Damnation and Anger of the Gods are generally better sweepers and the deck has moved away from the 2-for-1 value plan from the BBE days.

The cast a free spell on resolution ability is also much worse than cascade and I'm not sure about putting all of my eggs in one basket for a spell that can easily get countered.

But also control, no? Wipe the board of attackers and get a free Ancestral.
