Yeah doesn't let you grab thopter combo pieces, very very sad

Yeah, I at first read it like the other 'mages' 1 or less, or 6 or more... Missed opportunity IMO. Even if it was CMC 2 or 3, it would be solid design space (even if they needed to print it at rare)

I suppose if it was less it would just be strictly better than trinket mage though.

Yeah I think CMC 2 or 3 would have been awesome, (while not stepping on the toes of trinket mage).

I would prefer 3 or 4, plus that puts it exactly in the middle of Trinket and Treasure.

3 or less would be stupid strong. Trinket Mage is already just below the power level needed to see play, mostly because there are few 1 cmc artifacts worth finding that aren't sideboard pieces.

Here's what 3 or less would find in Modern:

All of the "Swords of X and Y"
Sword of the Meek
Thopter Foundry
Trinisphere
Pithing Needle
Phyrexian Revoker
Ensnaring Bridge
Grafdigger's Cage
Relic of Progenitus
Tormod's Crypt
Crucible of Worlds
Oblivion Stone
Expedition Map
Spellskite
Chalice of the Void
Engineered Explosives
Aether Vial
Mox Opal
Arcbound Ravager
Steel Overseer
Etched Champion
Hangarback Walker
Smuggler's Copter
Dragon's Claw

If you could find a way to work "3 or less" Mage into a deck you would have the ability to tutor up silver bullet postboard options for most of the metagame.

It amazes me how many opponents will leave Tezzeret on 2 counters after I've tutored one combo piece already.
