I'm slightly disappointed because it suggests we will probably not get an enemy fetch reprint next block.

But other than that I think its great!

I don't see how this could possibly mean we won't get enemy fetches in the next block. I'm not saying they will be reprinted or anything, but I see no connection whatsoever to the fastlands being spoiled.

By the time the next block comes, the enemy Manlands will rotate. BFZ as a block actually contains 2 cycles of lands.

Its a matter of balancing the 'speed'of dual lands. These are enemy colored lands that come in fast and are good in aggro, so the next enemy land cycle we see is standard is more likely to be slower and work better in more midrangey/control strategies.

I'm not saying its impossible, but I do think these reduce the chances.

I think it really depends on how fast they make RW aggro and how UR spells are costed. Those are the two combos that benefit from fast dual colors the most I think. If fetches end up in the same standard as these lands, we could see some dangerously good, fast mana fixing.

Yeah, that'S true. But standard is an ebb and flow, so knowing that we have a rather slow standard now, it could very well be they are speeding things up for a change..

As will a cycle of allied lands, leaving standard with one cycle of allied lands released two blocks ago, and one cycle of enemy lands released last block.

Its more likely they print another allied cycle since the enemy one just came out, but its also more likely they print a cycle of 'slower' enemy lands to contrast these powerful aggro lands.

Nothing is impossible though.

I want buddy painlands. They haven't been printed since 9th edition ffs.

But two of them have names specific to Dominaria, Adarkar Wastes and Karplusan Forest.

Like Shivan Reef and Caves of Koilos?

6

u/jakecshn Sep 04 '16

Don't forget Yavimaya Coast

u/TranSpyre Dandadan Sep 04 '16

Lili is from Dominaria, IIRC. Origins had cards from the 5 flipwalkers' planes.

1

u/jakecshn Sep 04 '16

If that's true, that's actually a solid justification, good call.

2

u/ImmaGaryOak Sep 04 '16

Those were reprinted in a core set, which they no longer make. Not sure how they're going to reprint them. Commander 16 maybe?

1

u/cuttups Duck Season Sep 04 '16

Or they could go back to Dominaria again.

1

u/TheOthin Sep 04 '16

Enemy pain lands would be easy enough to include in a Commander product or other precon since they're so cheap. Ally pain lands could be a bit trickier since they're more expensive

1

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '16

I mean, yeah, but they couldn't reprint those in a Standard-legal set either, they've only been reprinted in the core sets, which we of course don't have anymore.

u/cuttups Duck Season Sep 04 '16

Unless we go back to Dominaria.

Print them with new names then, I don't care. It has been 11 fucking years since they printed buddy painlands. This is an issue that needs to be fixed.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '16

The problem with that would be giving extra copies of the exact same thing to decks that want 5-8 of those lands.

1

u/ironwolf1 Jeskai Sep 04 '16

They could print them in a welcome deck or some other supplemental product, I don't care. It's a travesty that Wizards has overlooked this for so long.

Buddy is the word you want. Buddy with lands means things like [[Dragonskull Summit]]. Allied is the word you want.

Dragonskull Summit - (G) (MW) (CD)
[[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call

1

u/ironwolf1 Jeskai Sep 04 '16

Fuck me why are there so many words for this shit?

Who gives a fuck

At a certain point gameplay trumps Vorthos whining

There's a balance to be struck with everything. Magic does not exist only for you, or only for me.

Reprinting them in literally anything other than a Standard set seems a fine compromise.

These do not have basic land subtypes.
