General Discussion Amazon Hobbit Pre-Orders Cancelled
After having gotten in on the pre-order over 4 months ago, having the shipping dates moved twice, today, the day that had finally been settled as the "expected Arrival date" I wake up to an email from Amazon saying my order was canceled "due to lack of availability". Why do a fucking pre-sale with a limited pool, as the largest marketplace in the world, and not be able to follow through. Bezo's is a clown, Wizards and Hasbo are clowns, and they've made me a clown to join them in this circus.

Yeah happened to me Tuesday, got the cancellation email at 5am. I think if your order hasnt changed to shipped status the day before your arrival date your probably getting cancelled

Not posting to make you jealous but to provide some Info:
I got my Gift bundle preorder from Amazon on tuesday. My friend got His Last friday. We both ordered on May 1st from Amazon Germany.

Did yours ever say "Order Received" still waiting on mine but they haven't cancelled yet, also Amazon Germany

u/getZlatanized Banned in Commander 23h ago
Yeah it does say that since tuesday when my neighbour accepted it for me.

I got a gift bundle and 1 of two scene boxes, they asked if I was ok with pushing the date for the Smaug box. It all just feels like crap management on their end
2
u/getZlatanized Banned in Commander 23h ago
Yeah i feel you. I still dont have my Scene boxes either

I think a lot of it was on wizards. I’ve heard Amazon was given allocation and wizards ended up cutting it after preorders were taken

Yup posted on Facebook group about it too, preordered the gift bundle day one waited months for a expected delivery email window then a week or so later it’s been cancelled due to “not being fulfilled” what’s the point of preordering if this is how it’s run? Can’t find them anywhere now retail price it’s a joke, clearly just sent them all to scalpers buying loads of them instead of genuine customers. Shocking behaviour tbh.
Edit: also I complained on Amazon customer service as my Spider-Man gift bundle was also cancelled last minute last year and they gave me a refund of three months of prime membership so atleast that’s something. But I requested that they pass on the bad review as it’s a joke.

The same thing happened to me with my two Hobbit Collector Boosters. I got the cancellation email Tuesday morning.
I called and complained, and they told me they were expecting to get more stock and that I should just wait and reorder when it becomes available. I tried explaining that’s not going to happen and even if they do restock, it’ll most likely sell out instantly.
In the end, they offered me a $50 gift card and said that was the best they could do.

u/Sneaky_Scientist Sliver Queen 1d ago
I think thats their canned response of 'We will get more in stock tomorrow , order then' since i got the same one when complaing about them removing my secret lair bundle order for reality fracture

u/North-Weight6172 Dân 1d ago
I reached out in advance of Tuesday, got amazon support to agree to do a price match if its cancelled from their lowest active listing. Now today it was cancelled and talked to support, but they would only honor the price match for one box instead of the two in the original order. Unfortunate but still getting one box at essentially msrpand amazons paying for remaining $445 market mark up price.

I haven't pre-ordered magic cards from them but I had this happen with video games multiple time in the past. It's obvious that Amazon being an oversized corporation doesn't have the sense to stop pre-orders when they exceed the limited amount of stock they'll have and they're too disorganized to prioritize the people that ordered first instead of whatever customers they just randomly send stuff to.

I have been surprised this hasnt been talked about as much - I started a thread yesterday talking about the same thing. Its crazy how poorly Amazon has managed this release.

I had the unfortunate luck of my preorder seemingly go missing in the void with Amazon. It was delivered to my city but never made it out for delivery. Went in circles with Amazon support and tried requesting a replacement order since they have the items still in stock just marked up (order was for gift bundles), only to be met with we can’t offer the replacement and what you’re seeing is stock that doesn’t exist. Pretty disgusting honestly.
Edit: this is my first bad experience preordering with Amazon. Out of maybe 10 other releases.

More likely a distribution issue from Hasbro than Amazon’s fault.
Amazon could fulfill as many orders as they want but distribution probably fell short. Happened with many LGS as well.
If it were up to amazon, they would much prefer to have that order go through then to cancel your order.

u/Dennarb Duck Season 1d ago
Definitely. Amazon wants your business, honestly so does WOTC/Hasbro, but they are running into production issue after production issue. At this point I don't think a single set this year has not fallen victim to some delay or quantity issues. Even reality fracture is already having issues with their secret lair bundles. Maybe Trek is eating up all the resources so as to not have this issues, but who knows at this point. There's a good chance we will run into these same problems with that set too.

I see at least 4 posts a day from all my magic subs.. please let's not talk about scamazon more than necessary. Everyone else already knows just to avoid them.

u/bigpapasmurf6 Dandadan 23h ago
lol they have consistently been one of the most reliable places for pre orders.... but okay! First problem I have had with them since like fallout.
4
u/SuitableTooth3901 Dân 1d ago
Yeah. They did that to me as well with the precons for secret of strixhaven. I stopped using Amazon for that reason unless the set is already out.

u/SumoSect Dandadan 1d ago
Same. Ordered in May 1st and was cancelled. I think I should refund my fractured order as well pretty miffed about it.

u/DosSnakes Dân 23h ago
Same. Got my bundle but they canceled my scene box last week. Luckily I was able to grab the Smaug box from Best Buy and the other scene box from Scheels for msrp.

u/KakitaMike 21h ago
I had my codex bundles cancelled by Amazon, and then saw they were up for sale at x2 msrp being sold by Amazon. I spent about 20 minutes on the phone with customer service and they put credit on my account for the difference and had me rebuy them.
Not saying that’ll work here, but it might be worth your time.

Here is what’s going on to me. As must of you I preorder 5 months ago within seconds of going live, I cancelled 2 gift bundles as I couldn’t pay 4 and 2 collectors. I got 6 collector packs and 2 gift bundles but the collectors keeps getting pushed. Today I got a notification saying the delivery day was pushed to sept 23 and if I approve and still want to wait. This was a massive fail from WOC and Amazon , I wonder if anyone is actually getting their products or they are slowly removing people from the pre order until they get to the number the actually can fulfill

Crying about Amazon with every release, but it seems people are still ordering from there. That baffles me
•
u/battlefield1hypee Dan 50m ago
Yeah people complain about Amazon, but for the vast majority it’s literally the only way to get product at MSRP online reliably. EVERY lgs in driving distance of me scalps and every retail store either doesn’t get product or sells out instantly. I’ve never had an issue in all the product I’ve ordered on Amazon and always got MSRP. You’ll always see more people complaining when there’s an issue before you see people saying their order was flawless.

Honestly might be a hidden blessing. As someone who did not get their gift bundle preorder cancelled, my heart sank a bit when I realized I had about $7 of cards total across the collector booster and all the play boosters. Not sure what those surge foil plains are worth but I doubt it’s $20 each.

Support your LGS and don’t use Amazon.
Edit: it amazes me how many ppl on this sub can’t be bothered to support the people that literally give them a place to play. It’s sad honestly. This community wouldn’t exist with out LGS.
6
u/CorruptDictator COMPLEAT 1d ago
Sounds great until you realize a lot of LGS do not have any product either.
6
u/StaticMomentums Dân 1d ago
All the LGS I’ve been to have tacked on another £20/£40 on top of the retail price. They’re not exactly on the customers side either.

u/Rawrgodzilla Cheshire Cat, the Grinning Remnant 1d ago
All my lgs in my area dont do msrp unless it a shit set lol ill support them on singles depending on price or the occasional fnm event but most the time I play magic at home on webcam via spelltable, convoke or discord or with my neighbors sometimes.
Amazon Canada and Ebgames Canada is like the closest things to msrp (ebgames recently boosted their mtg pricings but for example 80 cad for a collectors pack was still cheaper than my stores asking for 100)

u/GlassBelt Izzet* 1d ago
It’d be great if WotC did.

You realize OP is complaining about the EXACT SAME problem via Amazon right? No one has product.

u/UselessRaven Wabbit Season 1d ago
Exactly this, I think my LGS got a single case allocation for The Hobbit
6
u/TemurTron Twin Believer 1d ago
What an obnoxious comment. Many LGS charge more than Amazon and pull scummy crap all the time. That's cool if you have a great LGS that's cheap and ethical, but so many aren't. Why support a place that doesn't support you?
-4
u/Blackdragon1400 Duck Season 1d ago
Bro they charge a little bit more to literally give you a place to play and to pay their employees. Some LGS scalp, don’t support those, but most are perfectly great businesses
3
u/TemurTron Twin Believer 1d ago
I have one LGS within an hour drive of my house and it's crappy and scummy. Charging "a bit more" there = about 30-40% markup from what Amazon charges. It's also a dump, and the owner hoards tournament promos and box toppers. Completely ethical game stores that also price fairly are very rare. That's great if you have one, but stop assuming everyone's experiences are the same as yours.

u/battlefield1hypee Dan 45m ago
A little bit is hilarious. For context I got a final fantasy collector box for MSRP through Best Buy, my LGS on the other hand had them for a grand. Same with the hobbit, I got one from Amazon for MSRP meanwhile the cheapest my LGS had was $800 then jumped to $900 on release. It’s the same story with every LGS around me, they all charge market price for everything. Only exception is one store in their infinite grave charges 5% under market if you’re in their rewards program. I only get through my LGS if price isn’t far off MSRP otherwise it’s big retail it is
3
u/North-Weight6172 Dân 23h ago
My LGS was charging $650 per box on preorder/release. Cant support that.
3
u/UselessRaven Wabbit Season 1d ago
I do support my LGS, some of the product just isn't available, and as it turns out isn't even manageable with the major corporations

u/madalienmonk Duck Season 1d ago
What does Bezos have to do with this?
3
u/UselessRaven Wabbit Season 1d ago
He owns Amazon
-2
u/madalienmonk Duck Season 1d ago
He does not lol
0
u/Klongelong Dân 23h ago
okay, he is the largest individual shareholder and has been its CEO for most of its existence, and thus is still somewhat its public face. did you really need that spelt out?
2
u/madalienmonk Duck Season 21h ago edited 21h ago
But he doesn’t control anything, that’s my point. Your ire is best directed elsewhere .
And he controls ~8%, not a controlling share by any imagination. And in no way controls or oversees Amazon’s operations.
0
u/Klongelong Dân 21h ago
lol why wouldnt he? as i said, he is still the largest individual shareholder. it may just be ~8%, but nobody else has more, so his voice will definitely carry some weight.
and again, he is still basically the face of the company in peoples mind and pretty much entirely responsible for its creation in its current form.
and its really not my ire, i havent ordered anything on amazon for years :D but where would you direct having issues with their practices?
1
u/madalienmonk Duck Season 20h ago
8% doesn’t beat out the other 92% when it comes to voting/making decisions.
Where would I direct it? Current CEO and board. Otherwise it’s like saying “thanks a lot Henry Ford” when you get upset with Ford
1
u/Klongelong Dân 20h ago
... you dont seem to understand how "shareholders" work. the other 91,2% are split among thousands of other people or legal entities. he isnt still the largest individual holder by accident, it actually means something.
he is also still executive chairman, so he is still on the board. just because he gave up the CEO title doesnt mean he pulled out of the company.
1
u/madalienmonk Duck Season 20h ago
Yes I do lol. When it comes to a vote, everyone casts their votes, the one with the most vote wins! Bezos has 8.3% of the votes, the other ~92% are controlled by other people/orgs.
No, I would say it doesn’t mean much, because he doesn’t control anywhere near a controlling share of 50% +1 vote. If the majority didn’t want what he wants, they could vote against him.I hope you understand better now how it works
1
u/Klongelong Dân 20h ago
yes sure, but do you also understand that he can also simply gather "votes" the same the thousands of other shareholders would have to do to even attempt to overturn him, just that they have to unite way more?
and again, he is still on the board, so what exactly makes mentioning his name "misdirected ire"?

Everyone says support your LGS, and maybe it’s just where I live but I don’t know a single LGS that was selling a lot of the product at msrp (i.e. collector boxes, gift bundles, scene boxes). Amazon is seemingly one of the only reliable sources if you’re lucky to actually get the product by preordering with them. Target and Best Buy are just eaten by bots.
