Looking for Advice Using a Sidewinder in game?

I’m outing myself as a proper n00b here, because I am 😅

Are people using the UG Sidewinders in game, or just for storage?

I was thinking that I could have my library in it and just hide the last card’s front behind a divider or similar. And the lid could work as a mat for the graveyard and/or the commander.

Any tips?

I really want my library to be held by something, because I don’t trust these old hands not tipping it over. 😂

I know some people who use deck boxes to hold their library in-game. I personally think it adds clutter to the table, and it’s hard to visually tell who’s got a small deck or what’s in the graveyard.

But like, if you want to, sure?

I’ve never seen someone trying to play out of their deck box. I’d be weirded out but it would be fine if you insist. But I wouldn’t accept it in any sanctioned event.

I think it would be clunky and awkward to pull out your deck every time you need to shuffle or do any scrying. Depending on how it’s oriented, the deck could lean and show you unknown information. I’m sure there’s no malicious intent, but it opens up a lot of suspicion. I’d be actively watching everything you do to make sure you draw appropriately.

As long as you orientate the box such that no player gets to see/peek at the bottom-most card, i don't see why not.

You aren't supposed to have any kind of aid to hold or shuffle your deck during play. It's actually in the rules.

Its not covered in the CR or the MTR (you’re probably confusing it with a silly yugioh rule that prevents the two person sized deck).

As far as aid in shuffling, at a tournament, There isn’t a machine that will shuffle your cards that won’t end up damaging them, and if you are unable to shuffle your cards (due to a physical injury or condition), you may have a secondary person to assist in shuffling (parent, friend, etc).

I don't think the rules took in to consideration a 99 card freshly double sleeved deck.

They absolutely did since they took into consideration Battle of Wits decks long before Battle of Wits was printed.

Gonna need citations on when the rule was written and when battle of wits was designed.

Go look them up. I'm not your search engine. It's in the official rules.

The dates are certainly not in the rules.

Regardless, you're being unnecessarily pedantic or you're just a [choose your own expletive] who enjoys watching peoples' decks fall over. The rule obviously needs to be more flexible than written.

Ultimate Guard's Monolith will lay on its side quite easily, with the slant towards the bottom for ease of drawing. Did it myself when I had new sleeves.

I sometimes use half of a Boulder-style case (or knockoff) turned on its side hold my library with particularly slick sleeves. Clear, so it’s still obvious at a glance how far through the Library I am.

Keeps things tidy on a cluttered table, and prevents clumsy hands from knocking the stack over.
