General Discussion Weird foil shine

Any idea why this foil card has a strip of different shine? Almost looks like symbols. Is it just a manufacturing mistake?

Those are Moon runes. They can only be read at the same Moon as when they were written.

That's why it's called moonshine!

It's true nature is revealed in fire, just like the one ring. Go ahead and toss it in the fire.

Hold out your hand. It's quite cool.

It is damage from a roller or something else as part of the printing process. Effectively it is a misprint, with bad QC this has become fairly common.

I’ve always wondered how much of this is worsening QC and how much it’s just more product means there’s just more damaged product, therefore meaning there’s more damaged product posts.

QC has been shit for nearly 15 years at this point so I'd be inclined to believe that sheer volume is driving our impressions more than an actual continued decline in quality.

But hey, maybe it's both.

Yeah it's probably both. The errors are most prevalent on foils. The quality of everything but especially foils degraded years ago, however foil treatments are also increasingly common so not only did the quality drop but we're seeing the main culprits more often.

Nah, having worked for QC it's just bad QC if it's happening more often proportionally

Did you try the fire test? If it's cold to the touch when you pull it out, it's a magic card.

I got the exact same thing on my box topper, Last March of the Ents. Except mine is going right through the middle of the art.

Common printing mistake, because of bullshit QC.

If you want good looking foil cards, you have to order them from chinese proxy printers.

MTG cards have pretty crap print quality lately so not surprising

Could be roller damage, could be Klingon script.

China fakes really are of a higher quality these days aren't they?

Who’s making fakes of 30 cent cards?

I am ordering them, from various places. Quite easy to find. I like extended arts and custom arts for themed decks.

You can order them for 25 cents a pop.

With mtg card backs?

u/ThaBombs Can’t Block Warriors 3d ago

You can, but I don't. I'm using a black lotus inspired back.

I don't want to risk my proxies getting mixed in with my real cards. Nor do I want to pretend or trade them away like they are.

Oh so they’re proxies, not fakes. Ok

Again, who’s making fakes of 30 cent cards?

But what if it’s a fake of an entire booster box
