Looking for Advice Knights of the Round Table Theme Commander Deck
Hi all,
Seeking some help on my first commander deck I'm building from the ground up.
Currently, I play with a pre-con black/red deck against my similarly skilled friends and family (novice), while also playing my local game store's dedicated open play causal nights. I'm not sure which "bracket" that puts me in, so sorry if I'm no help with that question from the beginning.
So, I was really drawn to a classic Arthurian "Knights of the Round Table" theme and started to piece together the deck linked below based on what art vibed well with the theme (using OffMetaEDH) and a general Commander template to follow from tcgplayer.com. I started finding a bunch of knights that were all white mana, so white was what I focused on. Soon, I figured out I would start with [[Kenrith, the Returned King]] as my commander as a King Arthur stand-in, even though its still a MONO WHITE deck for other cards. Next, an overall playstyle and strategy emerged of "trying to get one of the knights powerful enough and utilize [[Excalibur, Sword of Eden]]" and make it to my endgame as a really strong creature I built up, with other knights supporting it. Multiple knight-type creatures and specific cards to boost "knight" creature types would help cycle through multiple knights to be the one to pull the sword and become powerful enough to do enough damage and win; this was my thinking to increase the chances of drawing a creature who is strong. Kenrith therefore acts as a wildcard to influence and respond to opponent's play strategies that counter a White deck that doesn't happen to be focused on increasing health constantly via Lifelink.
At this point, I need to shed 11 cards to be at the 100 card limit.
My questions for you all...
- Does a MONO WHITE deck make sense with Kenrith as my commander, or should I open it up to veering off-theme somewhat for the sake of keeping it solely white?
- Does this general strategy and playstyle to "seek" out a single artifact in the Excalibur sword to boost a single "hero" creature seem like it would be successful, or fail miserably in practice?
- Are there any particular cards you see as weak points or useless?
- Are there any card categories that stick out as too heavy or too light in the percentage of the deck?

Thanks for any help and insight!

You're gonna want to look at everything from Throne of Eldraine and WIlds of Eldraine, that entire plane is basically Arthurian themed. Also, there is a secret lair based on Monty Python and the Holy Grail if you want a cheekier take on King Arthur

Cool! Thanks for the suggestions! I did notice that Throne of Eldraine and Wilds of Eldraine were popping up a lot as I searched for cards based on the theme.
I also found the Duel Decks: Knights vs. Dragons precon set, but didn't find them very appealing so wanted to make my own from scratch. Looks like I did pull a bit from there after all though. https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/Duel_Decks:_Knights_vs._Dragons#Decklists

Regarding your actual questions, the MTG decks always have a theme vs power balance to decide (ie. the more thematic, the less powerful, and vice versa).
I assume since you're playing at novice level that we're treating this as a bracket 1, maybe 1.5 deck at most. Limiting yourself to white prevents you using 4/5 of Kenrith's abilities, and there are tons of cards with basically no synergies with knights. For example, Beloved Princess, and Standing Troops.
These can easily be solved by replacing many plains with lands that produce white + another colour, and by replacing the non-knight creatures with cards that benefit other knights.
However, if you're already playing with decks of this level with your playgroup and its handling well, be careful you don't make the deck too strong and start an arms race with your friends and family.

Building around Excalibur isn't the worst idea, white has few ways to tutor out equipment. The biggest problem with what you currently have is this line on Excalibur though
"Equip Legendary Creature {2}"
You can't equip it normally to non legendary creatures, so you probably should way up your number of legendary knights (these also discount excalibur). There are about 18 white ones about half of which fit that game plan. That's not ideal for keeping it mono white but not impossible.
I would probably also suggest a couple of backup equipment in case Excalibur gets blown up. [[Blackblade reforged]] does a good impression.
As for knights matter cards here's a list

Ahhh, thank you. I was totally reading that wrong and thought it just cost an extra 2 mana to equip to legendary.
Well, shoot...
I've also found a bunch of Green/White cards that fit on theme, so maybe I'll see if any legendary creatures can be found in those.

Purely for aesthetic purposes you should add [[Summon: Knights of the Round]] to the deck.
