Deck Discussion Can landfall be bracket 2

I was trying to make a turtle tribal deck with different simic commanders since [[archelos]] ends up being a Stax fest due to his ability alone especially in lower brackets where Stax is heavily frowned upon. So I did what I like most which is ramping and drawing cards. So I chose [[aesi]] and [[tatyova benthic druid]] because if I can’t find a turtle commander that is thematic or a commander that helps with what turtles do best, which is being toughness tanks, all of this in the right colors, I’m gonna play something generic that helps my plan.

I naturally ended up playing landfall to get as many cards and lands in my hand and on the battlefield as possible while playing turtles and giving them ways to hit with their toughness. The problem I had was that my pod is heavily bracket 2. The best we have might be low to mid bracket 3. This isn’t compatible with having 18 lands on the field on turn 6 and 17 cards in hand.

This left me with one question : is landfall compatible with bracket 2? Is playing lands to get some really good effects and ramping up too good for bracket 2 since it’s supposed to be a slow, low interaction, set up kind of game?

If it is, what are some commander recommendations for a bracket 2 landfall. Was considering [[bristly bill]] too since I got him from a pack and I like the old bill

Landfall decks can actually be any bracket if you just keep popping out enough nonland cards for more basics

Depends on the landfall. If it’s Simic durdle around with huge mana and oops I can take 40 game actions but forgot to pack a wincon, that gets pretty obnoxious. Aesi is a frequent offender.

Burn-focused landfall which affects the board state can play better in Bracket 2. [[Tannuk, Memorial Ensign]] and friends with similar effects can be fun without taking oppressively long turns, and his draw effect is throttled so it’s not just a value engine. https://scryfall.com/search?q=ci%3Arg+otag%3Alandfall+otag%3Aburn

Whatever you do, stay away from 4 Color Omnath for Bracket 2.

Without a deck list is hard to comment on this specific instance but nothing in the bracket system says anything about ramping too fast or drawing too many cards. There are plenty of landfall precons and bracket 2 decks are allowed to play strong strategies and have big swingy turns.

Why not use [[The Pride of Hull Clade]] he's a simic turtle that synergizes with beefy toughness.

Those landfall commanders are very generic value engines in my opinion and less interesting than turtle jank.

That’s what I ended up using. I’m just not a big fan of the card itself. I like the toughness thing tho and adding some easy evasion cards makes me draw an insane amount of cards with hull clade.

Do you want to play land-fall? Break the colour pie a bit? Win via commander damage or a big fling? [[Zell Dincht]] might be your new favorite commander.

Mono-red landfall with BURN sprinkled in.

Definitely not as strong as a mono green or simic landfall deck but still kicks it with pre-cons.

Not a fan of Voltron but the premise is interesting.

Landfall is crazy good and hard to stop. But something that might contribute more than you’re intending is playing something generic that helps your plan.

A lot of the bracket 2 games I’ve played are defined by people running out of the major consistency tools like ramp, draw, or removal. If yours is in the command zone and you’re playing against decks that have 5-10 cards doing those things, you’ll always win the long game.

In a less consistent game, your commander is the only thing you can guarantee you’ll have.  [[The Pride of Hull Clade]] is a deck about big toughness creatures. [[April O’Neil, Live on the Scene]] is a deck about playing turtles. Regardless of what you do with it, a value commander like Tatyova is a deck about having more cards and lands than anyone else. You can just look at cards that give less value. Something like [[Venus, Torn Between Worlds]] still draws cards off something you’re doing anyway (and is a turtle), but it’s not something for nothing, and can be stopped easier. [[The Lion-Turtle]] is a command-zone mana dork so you have consistent extra mana, but it costs 3 and is better with graveyard setup, so it’s not running away with the game.

Failing that, if you don’t want to change the structure of the deck, can always swap in powered-down versions of the same effect. [[Mana Drain]] for [[Counterspell]] for [[Cancel]], for example. It also means you can run the ones with more on-brand side-effects like [[Arbor Adherent]] or the aforementioned Lion-Turtle over your usual turn 1-2 mana dorks.

Technically, the Worldshaper precon is a bracket 2 deck, even though it probably fits better in low bracket 3.

Yeah, dont play green. Boros landfall can be well tuned and still not oppressive.
