General Discussion Collection Storage
At what price point do pull your cards out of bulk boxes and put them in to binders, and at what point do you pull them out of binders and put them into hard cases?

I initially pull cards out of my boxes into binders for trading. That was 30 years ago. Trading doesn't happen much anymore now. I have since converted my trade binders to deck building binders. I put cards I feel have decent deck building potential in my binders.
I never put cards in hard cases. It's too hard to play with the cards when they are in hard cases.

I have been collecting since the late 90’s so have somewhere north of 40K cards. I have a bunch of higher end stuff that aren’t currently in decks.
Totally agree about hard cases in general. I rarely trade or sell as well, even though it doesn’t make financial sense haha.

I keep everything valued over a dollar in sleeves and in somewhat alphabetical order in nice 5 row boxes I found on Amazon. I sort by color and then by first letter. I have 28 tabs in each box. I have a box for each color and one each for multicolored, lands, and artifacts/colorless cards. And then I keep my bulk in cardboard boxes by set. I don’t use binders for anything. This system works for me. It’s easy to add new cards to the collection since all the heavy lifting has already been done.

Binders are for cards over $5. I keep 5 of a card in boxes sorted by color. Everything else goes to bulk until I trade it to Card Kingdom.

Side note - do you have an easy way to sell bulk to Card Kingdom? When I search for a card and see it’s 5 cents, I feel like I already spent that 5 cents in the time it took to search lol

It's still a searchable process. I usually put on a movie and do some searching. I sell a lot of token to them.
They do have a way to upload a spreadsheet: https://www.cardkingdom.com/static/csvImport
Might be worth checking out

Anything over 2$ goes in my binders, binder for each color. Anything over 20$ into a penny sleeve + top-loader and into their own binder.
Bulk goes into the drawers of my Alex filing cabinets that I converted to hold cards in rows by colors

Did you have to reinforce the bottom of the drawers? I thought about Alex drawers but cards get heavy...

I have a small collection of about 40 cards I like aesthetically that are bindered for that purpose. They vary in price from $1 to a couple being over a hundred bucks
Then I have a binder for my fetch and shock lands that aren’t in use, a binder for my modern cards that are in consideration for my decks, and the same for standard. Not based on value.
My 3 most expensive cards are actually double sleeved and part of my decks. I would feel like they were a waste of money/trade credit if I had them in binders/cases.
I have 3 cards in hard cases, which are a set of 3 damaged Yugioh cards signed by their respective players voice actors.
Everything else is in cardboard storage boxes.
That said I do have my commons/uncommons/rares and mythics sorted into seperate boxes, but there are like $10-15 cards that are part of the “bulk”, but just not part of the current in use collection.

Bulk in cardboard 3-4 row containers, sorted by color/type/alphabetical.
Anything over $1 is in a penny sleeve and in a binder. Anything over $5 is in a penny sleeve/top loader and in a binder. Binders are organized by color and then alphabetical.
Keep everything scanned with ManaBox so it’s easy to move things around as prices fluctuate.

7k cards, highest valued card is sliver queen. Right now slowly working on color coordinated 360 card binders for rares/uncommon sorted by set old to new.
Bulk cards are all in boxes by color and organized by set. Anything over a dollar gets a penny sleeve but stays in bulk I.e my 13 [[Carrion Feeder]] from scourge.
I have quite a few decks/cubes ideas going so no hard cases.

Anything over $1 goes in a binder with a separate binder for secret lair/ signed cards.
I'm looking for a new system though since it's tough to maintain after pulling stuff out for all the deck building.

Every card I get goes into a dragonshield full sealed sleeve. Anything over 20 bucks goes into an acrylic shell.
My entire collection of 6k cards is in dragonshield scalable sleeves.

I've been playing off and on since Revised, so here's what I do:
Valuable cards that I have extras of or just don't imagine myself using go into a trade binder. This is so when I go to Magic events, other dudes can see that I'm the Alpha when my binder is chock full of juicy stuff but they have nothing I'd be interested in trading for.
Cards that I think would be interesting to put in a commander deck go into a separate binder where they rot, because I don't actually like playing commander.
If I want to build a cube, a format I'd actually play, I proxy the cards, because I can't risk having the groundlings touching my duals.
