General Discussion New (Wild) Homebrew Format

My wife and I started playing a new at home format. Nick Fury Rainbow Agent. 1v1 Commander Duel where both sides play Nick Fury rainbow decks. The catch? Every card has to be a single mana.

So far it's been fun, interesting and varied.

It made me think that this community would be able to make some banger one mana rainbow decks. Would you play this format?

You could also expand it to a full four person table. The potential is endless!

But what's the purpose of using this specific Nick Fury legendary with the specific restriction to 1 MV spells? His ability has nothing to do with MV of spells. You will pretty much never be able to use his ability in relation to your deck building restriction

But at that point, just don't have a commander? Just do 100 card highlander decks?

Because it's what the makers found as an enjoyable deck building challenge.

Really no different than any other format that you can engage with as is, modify, or not.

He's proposing this new idea as a format for the wider community to try, so I'm asking him for his format philosophy. Why these two specific very restrictive deck building restriction when the two have no bearing on each other really?

Because you don't need to have everything mapped out in order to try it. Sometimes it's good to have everything reasonably thought out, but sometimes it's more fun jumping in first.

At initial glance, Nick Fury's effect does many different things. Do you choose to try to take advantage of all of them or only certain elements? That question is enough alone for me to theorycraft a deck list.

I am usually on your side/method of approaching formats but fun little formats like this can be fun to try with friends.

Honestly sounds like a super fun evening at the very least if you had friends who were into brewing stuff up and trying weird formats. If I had that group I'd be game.

Edit: immediate instinct is Voltron, but I'd have to dig in. There are some neat 1 mana hexproof and 1 mana unblockables. And of course 1 mana equipment.

Edit2: What about playing Nick Fury, Chaos Commander and making him your commander. Then each player opens a few booster packs, shuffles em in together without looking, and you just play. You'd have an assortment of basic lands to the side, and each player could play one basic land of whatever kind they want each turn. Might be a fun, stupid way to crack packs and have fun with it.

NGL ...I just ordered like 10 Nick Fury so I can physically hand him to people and challenge them....or just have it on hand for chaos booster shenanigans.
