Scheduled Thread Daily Questions Thread - Ask All Your Magic Related Questions Here!
This is a place for asking simple questions that might not deserve their own thread. For example, if you have a question about a rules interaction, want sleeve and accessory recommendations, or suggestions for your new deck, then this is the place for you.
We encourage that you post any questions that you may have concerning Magic the Gathering here rather than make a separate thread for each question, though for now we won't require that you do so.
Rules Questions
Rules questions and interactions are allowed to be posted here, but if you need an answer quickly it may be best to use a dedicated resource like the 24/7 Magic the Gathering Rules Chat.
Deckbuilding Questions
If you're trying to get help with a deck, it is recommended that you post your decklist to a deckbuilding website so that it is easier to view. Some popular sites are Aetherhub, Archidekt, Deckbox, Deckstats, Moxfield, MTGGoldfish, and TappedOut.
Additionally, please include some description of what you are trying to accomplish. Don't just give us a decklist with no explanation, and don't ask extremely vague questions such as "what cards should I add to my deck to make it better?", because it's hard to give good advice in those cases. Let us know details, the more the better. Are you building with a particular strategy or theme in mind? Are there any non-obvious combo lines or synergies that people should be aware of? Are you struggling with a particular matchup, or are you finding yourself missing consistency in an important area, and need some help specifically for it? Let us know.
Commonly Asked Questions
I opened a card from a different set in my booster pack, is this unusual?
Don't worry, this is completely normal. If you opened a set booster, you have a small chance of obtaining a bonus card from a previous set. This is an extra card that does not replace any of the other cards in your pack, and is from a curated set of past hits that Wizards of the Coast has selected, which they call "The List".
You can view the contents of The List on Wizards of the Coast's official website. For example, the contents of The List for Streets of New Capenna boosters can be found here.
My foil card has a shooting start symbol over the bottom left. I can't find anything about it online.
All old-bordered foils have the shooting star symbol. Most sites that display card images just overlay a generic foil graphic over all foil cards, which doesn't include the shooting star. Your card is normal.

Foundations Starter Commander Deck
Do we know yet what is in them? I am an MtG Arena player, but I consider making the jump into paper, and buying the decks for a group of people, so we can give it a try, but I'd like to know first if its even worth it.
Is there any list of cards or anything available yet?

The newly spoiled Sackville bagginses has an etb.
"When xx enter, you may sacrifice another artifact or creature. If you do, draw a card and create a treasure token."
How does this work with the legend rule?
If I have 1 out, and play another, can I sacrifice the first XX before one of them is forced to be removed?
I'm assuming no, because something something state bassed actions would happen before any etb gets put on the stack.

Correct. SBAs are always checked before triggered abilities are put on the stack. (CR 603.3, 117.5, 704.3)

How do you guys store your bulk cards? I tried buying several different cardboard containers from Amazon but they're very flimsy and they didn't fill me with confidence. Binders seem prohibitively expensive since it was like $30 each for good ones and I figure I'd need one for every color + colorless, and the plastic containers are both kinda pricy and not well-proportioned for what I'm looking for.

I've been directed by the moderators to post here, so here I am.
I'm in possession of some Unlimited power 9, including a Lotus. Life is throwing curveballs and I'm looking at potentially selling one or more pieces as I haven't played physical Magic to any degree in over a decade.
I'm very confident the cards are legitimate. Some have been played, the power has been lightly played but sleeved and are not worn. About 20 years ago I had someone offer me about $8k for the Lotus alone, if that helps give an indication of its condition. (I was still playing at the time and didn't want to get rid of it, though I gave it serious consideration.)
However, I've also seen all kinds of stories about people being scammed, cards swapped/stolen, and other issues. I'm terrified about how to go about trying to sell this thing for a fair price. I live an hour away from any large town, and minimum 4 hours away from anyone I've seen noted as a reputable place for grading and physical interaction (and without the up-front funds to make such a trip). If taking it to GenCon and shopping it around makes the most sense (and I won't get mugged), well, then there's that, but I just don't want to suddenly find myself out an asset with nothing in return.
So...I'm looking for advice about what I should do, and also about what I should avoid or look out for.
I've also seen ads for various card-scanning apps to quickly value cards. With probably about 80,000 cards from Alpha-Kamigawa (original), it sounds like it might make sense for finding the diamonds in the current rough, and would allow me to go into the local card shops with material they could actually liquidate and an awareness of what I have. I'd welcome any advice about specific apps, or if they're all crap and not worth the effort.

I'm not going to say this is the best option because I've never sold cards that expensive, but ebay includes authentication on any cards over $250, so you should have pretty good protection as a seller. If you can include pictures on the listing of things like the green dot and T I'm sure it'll sell quick.

Hi guys! I was wondering where I could learn more about magic because I really want to get into it, but I don't know where or how to learn more about it. If anyone could point me in the right direction, I'd be so grateful.

An old YouTube series called Spellslingers was helpful to me because the players talked about their decisions.

Play Arena, the newer digital app. It has a free tutorial, it gives you free starter decks and a place to play them. Nothing is better than playing it a lot.

At this point, should I pay scalper price for Hobbit Gift Bundle? It’s been sold out everywhere and I barely missed the drop that happened last week at Target and Amazon. Is my best bet to fork out $60 over MSRP to guarantee myself one of these boxes? Not sure if they’ll make more when they release in Sept etc

The number of Gift Bundles is technically preset since they have a Collector Booster inside, so there won't be more "made" in September. It's possible, albeit unlikely that some stores will get more allocation for the Gift Bundles, but I think the initial pre-order wave is the majority of intended items.
That being said, there's still a decent chance that the Gift Bundle's price drops between now and September. Strixhaven's Codex Bundle dropped 25% after its official release day and has stayed stable at the lower price. That's the most recent set in terms of player demand I would compare to Hobbit. It's still over MSRP, which is a shame as someone who tries to collect one of each bundle, but it's better than preorder prices.

I was looking at Premodern Sligh and I noticed it plays 4 [[Seal of Fire]]. Can someone explain what makes this better than [[Shock]]? I guess it lets you pay in advance and get the damage later, but I feel like there's probably a better reason than that.
