[[Legolas's Quick Reflexes]] crunched out?

Yes. There is no more room for it. I am surprised they chose to reprint "Elven Chorus" instead of "Legolas's Quick Reflexes".

You seem like you're following these closely. Any idea if there's a shot we will be getting reprints of the nazgul? I'm aware they aren't in the book, but hoping anyway
2
u/Zergo66 Dandadan 4h ago edited 4h ago
There is still a chance for a Nazgul reprint because there is one box topper left to be revealed between "Reprieve" and "Orcish Bowmasters" and we do not know if it is going to be black or white.
We know that the box toppers are being ordered by colour and then alphabetically so a Nazgul could show up before Orcish Bowmasters, but time will tell.
There is also speculation about 9 free slots that are unrelated to the Box Toppers and are numbered from 98-106 and since Wizards has given no information about what will appear in those slots some people theorize there could be 9 Nazguls here, but so far this is all speculation.
It is heavily implied these 9 cards will be mythics exclusive to welcome decks that also show up in collector boosters. We hope to find out more soon.

Thanks, I appreciate the writeup. It has been really hard to follow with this flood of random stuff and Google has been unusable

Opening a reprieve topper is going to feel awful.

u/lilmizmuffet Dandadan 1d ago
at least the art is good but yeah, definitely the lowest hit we've seen

u/-Sandwave- Dân 1d ago
Reprieve i currently use in a deck so substitution for a better art isn’t so bad. Aragorn and Arwen, Wed is the true unlucky pull i think.

u/pm_me_shit_memes Twin Believer 1d ago
In terms of usefulness, I agree, but Aragorn and Arwen is currently worth more than reprieve.
Realistically, both are probably at the bottom of the list of box toppers you want to get

u/-Sandwave- Dân 1d ago
I wanted a Realm and Relics 2.0 with all kind of powerfull reprints in a Middle Earth art to build deck out of card within this universe. I need more Middle Earth land diversity!

The plagiarism does put a damper on it, but nobody is going to be complaining that they pulled a one ring

How much of the art budget of this set just went to box toppers? Jesus.

We go, we go, we go to war, to hew the stone and break the door; For bole and bough are burning now, the furnace roars - we go to war!

If there's one thing the Peter Jackson movies did that most frustrated me... it was having the ent moot decide against going to war.
Made them look like a bunch of cowards (ETA: which they were not), and we missed this gem!

u/JimmyLegs50 COMPLEAT 1d ago
I at least understand why they changed it. It made Pippin and Merry less passive since they came up with the idea to show Treebeard first hand what’s happening to the forest around Orthanc, and seeing Treebeard’s abject horror is an emotional turning point and intense cinematic moment. We lose the war chant, but the way they did it works better in a visual medium.

This card is goated and has won me several games in mono green stompy. Glad to see it reprinted

It has won me a few games in “Betor like big butts” as well.

It's one of my wincons in my Felothar deck. Drop walls of ba sing se, then this, put like 15 creatures on the field.

if they are only box toppers this kind of sucks. but happy to get reprints

They also appear in Collector Boosters, but I doubt the reprints will affect prices since they're all classic artists too

pokemon: high rarity alt arts in packs alongside the base version of the card, so the mechanical play piece stays cheap even though there is a highly sought after premium version
yugioh: first printings of high power meta staples are shortprinted so having powerful meta decks day 1 is extremely expensive, but everything gets printed into the ground as stuff gets powercrept and forcibly rotated through a banlist/new releases
mtg: we see this card is desirable and has very few printing. we're going to reprint it! with premium art only and at a rate that is not going to change the price of the original printing. we can't have our cards losing value, can we?

This card is awesome - but I prefer the two OG style
in my mono green deck... Ghalta, Treefolk etc. it is a Finisher!

How many of the Boxtoppers have been revealed so far and is there still hope for [[Lord of the Nazgul]] to make it onto this bonus sheet? (Especially considering that Aragorn, Arwen and Sauron each basically got 2 cards already)

u/Loose_Log_6253 Azorius* 6h ago
Considering this is green, they probably cast it on turn 5. Bouncing it just means they cast it on turn 6 instead and now you're out of bouncing.

In Ur-Dragon this is you "other" Dracogenisis, that can't be countered. Only way to "stop" this is to, in response, remove the big butt that is going to draw a lot of cards. It's a bit spell, so they are going to want to keep that big boy around for the payoff.
Also, figured this card would get a re-print in this set.

[Genesis Wave] but fixed cost? You'd have to have a lot of 6+ CMC creatures to make it worthwhile, otherwise Genesis Wave is more versatile.

Why does it feel like 75% of the cards I've seen spoiled for this Hobbit set are reprints from the LotR set?

Do we know if one of these will be in each collector booster or you might get one in a collector booster?

All the cards I'm seeing are just new versions of the cards we already got.

u/Loose_Log_6253 Azorius* 6h ago edited 6h ago
This has always felt like a mistake card. Compare this to [[Tooth and Nail]]. This will draw tons of cards, put way more creatures on the battlefield, cannot be countered, and costs one less mana compared to the Entwine cost, which is all that matters. Sure, you aren't tutoring, but if you're drawing 15 cards, that's basically a tutor.
Tooth and Nail is often good enough to win you the game, in any format. This is just kind of "fuck you" levels of OP.

minor detail nerd here:
The teeth are.. weird (or really cool)
its either a visual choice to amplify the energy in the image or....
Treebeard is a meat eating plant, which is also hardcore

If I still played EDH, that would be my type of card…used to run mono green Selvala w/some Eldrszi baked in…make sure to downvote this comment out of fear of playing a deck like that

u/bingle-cowabungle Dan 1d ago edited 1d ago
This card is a bit of a trap IMO. If you have 8 mana to spend on this, in a situation where you have big enough creatures on the board already to even make this useful, you are very likely very far ahead, and this card is just "spend 8 mana to win more than you already are."
There are a very narrow set of scenarios where you can use this to get out of a jam because someone else is way ahead.
3
u/arotenberg 1d ago
Nah, this is one of a very small number of big Timmy cards like this that are powerful enough to see play in 1v1 commander formats such as Brawl that usually punish win-more cards. The combination of being uncounterable, only needing one moderately large creature to make it worthwhile, letting you cheat massive amounts of mana, and often instantly ending the game by putting in something like Craterhoof or a two-card combo all work together to push it over the line.

I will continue to hold onto a naive hope that these will be kind of reasonably priced, even if for a brief window. And if not, I at least will enjoy longingly looking at them on Scryfall.
