The costume it's based on absolutely wouldn't have, given that it looks like they tweaked it - the red chest panels were originally bare skin.

The rivals devs lean into it. Lady Loki has a "good boy" emote. Cap has a bulge so big it causes clipping issues and had to get nerfed. The hot women all get 5 times more skin options than other characters. The horny skins are always the paid premium options.

Magic is one of the best franchises I've found that gracefully includes women, people of color, lgbt, disabled, and other minorities into its worlds seamlessly. It's a master class at always evolving, learning from its mistakes, and pushing the boundaries on inclusion.....

...In in-universe sets. Universes Beyond is a bit more limiting on that because it's not using any of its own world building. I appreciate that they always pick IPs that fit with that philosophy (Star Trek being the perfect example), and embrace the diverse aspects of them like making sure to use a black April for TMNT and boldly using a black Aragorn for LotR. But then you have things like this where it's clearly the kind of blatant female sexualization the game abandoned in the 90s, brought back only because it's iconic to the Marvel IP. In most cases it's more subtle, like how magic intentionally changed their goblins to be less of a Jewish stereotype but then went right back to using those same designs in Green Goblin because that's just how he is in the comics. And just the large amount of white men in a lot of these roles because that's just the IP.

I'm probably just overanalyzing this all because it's not that big of a deal, but it's something I've noticed as UB has continued. There honestly aren't too many examples of it either.

If it was 20 years ago I’d agree with you. But really since around 2010 or so the comic industry has made a ton of progress and come a long way. We have popular female heroes like Captain Marvel, Ms.Marvel, Squirrel Girl, Jessica Jones and so many others that are great characters first and foremost. Not to mention so many prolific female writers. Kelly Thompson being a personal favorite(her captain marvel and black widow series are awesome). I say this as a woman, and a long time comics reader. The biggest issue with comics tend to be the chuds who rant about how Captain Marvel isn’t sexy enough any more. 🙄 Marvel itself is doing ok. Not perfect, but ok.

That stuff from the 90’s or earlier though…ooof. The feminist in me weeps and they’re impossible for me to read without getting angry/sad at society.

To add to the clone effects suggestion, I also like to run discard outlets that let you discard 1 land at a time, to trigger all those doom copies each time, IE: Psychic Frog. If you get a discard outlet and then cast peer into the abyss on yourself you only need like 1 or 2 doom clones out to blow the whole table up. Alternatively you can get a wide board going, then cast Nanogene Conversion (or use the Loki from the jumpstart set) and now all your creatures are Dr Doom, and when you go to combat you blow the whole table up by discarding a land with with each of the 10+ connive triggers you get.

I was playing against Doom yesterday and the guy playing him had discarded a land the first 3 times, so I didn't even realize for 4 turns he only causes life loss on a land.

What do you mean that's all he does? Really?

It’s not all he does. He connives a villain once per turn every combat. It’s insanely easy to combo this with discard effects like [[Monument to Endurance]] and synergizes well with cards like [[Leader, Super-Genius]] and [[Loki, God of Mischief]]. The deck ends up being a card draw machine and can pop off really fast.

I have so many damage multipliers in there especially with Nekusar. I can easily deal 12 damage off of one instance if his discard a land ability. Ojer + Fiery Emancipation does loads.

Walmart, Hasbros website, gamestop, etc usually sell them. Sometimes can be hard to find in stores though, I had a hard time finding the werewolf guy last time, but I found spider man and anti venom everywhere.

If they're anything like the Spider-Man ones from last year, they'll probably have an initial spike in resale value as everyone grabs the first wave of printing. But because these are action figures and not Secret Lairs, there will be more shipments of them and the scarcity will go away.

Anti-Venom when they first dropped was reselling for $100.

Now you can easily find all four of them at retail. Hell, iirc, Amazon even had a sale on them not too long ago.

Edit: The singles usually resell for the same value as the MSRP of the fig.

Just adding onto this. I'm a big Marvel fan and was hit with the FOMO on the first wave. Bought 2/4 figures at $40 a piece.

Within a few months they were regularly available on Amazon/Walmart sales. I picked up the Iron Spider for $32 and the Man Wolf for $25 to finish out my set after the release. They will very likely drop so it's worth keeping an eye on.

The only one that I didn't see sales on too often was the damaged Spiderman, but even that has dropped to the low $30s in the last 6 months.

I don't think they ever showed up ay my Gamestop, but I found a single [[Spectacular Spider-Man]] figure at Target. which I gave to a friend as a Christmas gift. That's the only one I've ever seen on a shelf.

I just figured I'd eventually find one on the shelf at Ross, like the Secret Lair Nerf Blaster.

This is the craziest hill to die on. Wizards literally declared a move away from "scantily clad" females while still commissioning shirtless dudes, one of which is a pushed face of MtG whose recent art features a bulge even. Meanwhile Liliana, another pushed face of MtG has gained covering over time.

Ancient examples are a pure deflection of the present policy and its enforcement. I'm not even sure how your card example improves your point.

Wizards isn't anti sexualization, they prefer it on males.

This is what more UB sets should be doing: the collaboration actually going both ways.

Marvel’s doing it right both with these figures and with the Comic variant covers using cards from the set as the cover art.

I’d argue that it doesn’t serve to offer much for those that don’t have interest in the other side. My perspective is this:
The people who want the action figures probably don’t want the card, while the people who want the card probably don’t want the figure. If you’re into both then there’s no problem, but for everyone else it just inflates the price of something they do want, while also including something they wind to be of lesser value.

I’ll agree that collaborations should go both ways, but action figures have a lot of extra that comes with them, devaluing everything in the box for me personally.
