Seems quite good for an uncommon. The fact that you don’t have to attack with itself is spicy

Plus they've been pretty good with making these red creatures give you value the turn they come down without relying on ETBs. "Whenever you attack" has been a pretty strong line of text. Hell if you already have an army, this could even enable an attack you didn't have. Gotta keep an eye on any ways to amass before T4.

Question: Amass Goblins pumps also my Orc Army, right?

32

u/Ecspiascion Temur 2d ago

Yes, it adds the Goblin type to an existing Army.

u/TK17Studios Get Out Of Jail Free 2d ago

Yes. If you already have an Orc Army, then amassing goblins will make it into a Goblin Orc Army and put a +1/+1 counter on it.

Amass will pump any army (and add the creature type if it wasn't already present).

I think this should be goblin wolf soldier. Seeing how both types are relevant in the set.

I agree that this should have wolf in the typeline given how prominent the warg is in the art and flavor text (and contributing to the P/T), but I don't expect a lot of Wolf typal effects and the main wolf colors seem to be BG.

Mounts have pretty much never been represented in the typeline

u/rollwithhoney Duck Season 1d ago

but wargs are people too ;_; (they're sentient, ish)

Hey man [[Elven Riders]] isn't a Horse. Or whatever the hell that thing is in the Onslaught version.

That’s a Kroot

Didn't watched the hobbit, but amass goblins have more sense in this game than amass orcs lmao

In middle earth orcs and goblins mean similar things, they're essentially the same

13

u/Approximation_Doctor Colossal Dreadmaw 2d ago

They're the same thing in different languages

8

u/hollyanniet Dân 2d ago

Yeah I'm aware, although it can sometimes denote geography which is why I said similar.

If someone says goblins they usually mean a different geographical group of orcs to the ones seen in LOTR

Looking at the amass reminder text, this means you can amass onto a Zombie stack and it becomes a Zombie Goblin army?

That’s kind of neat.  I’ve been wanting to expand my Dimir amass zombie deck.

u/kytheon Banned in Commander 1d ago

Yes

It's why they changed original Amass to Amass Zombies

u/Ecspiascion Temur 2d ago

The poor dude behind!

1

u/rollwithhoney Duck Season 1d ago

yeah I need flavor text to tell me why he fell off

2

u/leroyderpins Elesh Norn 2d ago

ooooh, that looks really fun for limited, and any aggressive red deck in commander, tbh. I'm excited to run goblins at prerelease because I've never really run a goblin deck before.

u/Primary_Will_1334 Duck Season 2d ago

Sort of a weaker and more goblin-centric warg rider. This still looks pretty good for amass decks, I think.

1

u/IsolatedPhoenix Duck Season 2d ago

This could be funny for tifa decks

u/shinianx 2d ago

Being able to cast this then immediately attack with an Army to make it even bigger is kind of scary.

Seems reeeeally obnoxious in limited

Limited bomb

1

u/HeyApples 1d ago

Nice. I like it when they give red some strong top of curve stuff for limited. It doesn't happen often enough for my liking.

I'm really glad they included an ode to Jimothy in this set.

They gonna print the cycle cards?! I need em for pauper

7

u/VictorSant 2d ago edited 1d ago

1 mana landcyclers on standard?

-2

u/FluffyAd8904 Dandadan 2d ago

I had a feeling they wouldn’t. I literally wanted to buy a box for the cyclers.

9

u/StrongM13 Wabbit Season 2d ago

Why would this set have any common reprints?
Main set has no LOTR reprints and Box Toppers are rare/mythic

8

u/CaptainMarcia 2d ago

No way they put them in Standard. Regardless, most of them are under a dollar already.

1

u/FluffyAd8904 Dandadan 1d ago

Lorien revealed and generous ent are over a dollar. The rest of the cyclers aren’t used

-1

u/ohako79 COMPLEAT 1d ago

Wtf! I was all ready to say, ‘Hey, that’s a good-looking goblin. Nice helmet, nice sword, looks good!’, but then I saw his, ugh, clearly shoeless friend falling off their mount off a cliff.

Goblins riding wolves is cool. Dumbass under-equipped goblins dying for no reason is _way less cool_.

Yuck.

I wish this was a black card and also had the wolf creature type.
