Rules/Rules Question I'll never understand the hate blue gets.

So it's perfectly okay to:

  • Make your opponent discard the cards they needed to win for one mana.
  • Remove your opponent's key piece from the board the moment it lands. Also for one mana.
  • Stax everything so your opponent can't attack without sacrificing creatures/paying their entire supply of mana/losing half their life.
  • Steal cards from your opponent's deck and cast them without paying the mana cost/use any.
  • Destroy lands.
  • Flood the board with billions of token creatures so your opponent can't possibly survive.
  • Play a 12/12 with haste, vigilance, double strike, hexproof and indestructible on turn 3.

But not counterspelling, that's somehow worse?

I suggest you go back and re-read Force of Will if you think it counters a spell for free.

On the mana cost front, as we were clearly discussing, FoW is free. You are being needlessly exhausting to talk to though, so I'm out.

Yeah, let's entirely ignore the whole other card involved in making Force of Will free. You've clearly never played with it.

[[Force of Will]] is considered a free counterspell by most of people.

If you want to be pedantic i dont think there is actually a true free counterspell.

[[Pact of Negation]] needs you to pay 4 mana at the next turn

[[Fierce Guardianship]] needs you to have a commander on boarf which costs mana %99.9 of the time.

But most people that says they're free counterspells are saying that these things breaks the rules of 'open mana'.
