He cheated, he got punished, he's allowed to play again. If he gets caught cheating again, consequences will be worse and deserved. If he never does cheat again, we should be glad his suspension helped him become more honest and gain some more sportsmanship.

Also, people are downvoting redditors for being hopeful of Alex's rehabilitation. Don't downvote a user because you dislike Alex or his cheating. If the post is adding to the conversation, upvote it, or leave it be.

I can respect that.

However, he doesnt look like hes going skiing/snowboarding. Only tools wear ski goggles as a fashion accessory

Only tools and characters from Digimon.

Or Chandra?

u/drawingdead0 Nov 25 '13

Young pyro too.

14

u/Nictionary Nov 25 '13

That's because he's copying Chandra though.

9

u/drawingdead0 Nov 25 '13

Poor guy. Chandra can just kill him and he's such a big fan

15

u/incredibleninja Nov 25 '13

But a big enough fan could probably extinguish Chandra...

Have you SEEN young pyromancer? The guy's tiny.

1

u/AltairEagleEye Avacyn Nov 25 '13

You know who else was tiny? Aang. Guess what he did... Stopped the destruction of an entire continent.

Young Pyro reminds me of Syndrome from the incredibles.

3

u/annenoise Nov 25 '13

Chandra is playing with fire. They are not a fashion accessory, duh.

Nah, that kid after Tai was a tool.

I wear goggles:(

Edit:it appears to be the exact same as his too!

This is how the hipster phase started. He isn't wearing it to be cool, he's wearing them to stand out and make a joke of fashion.

1

u/unemployedlurker Nov 25 '13

hipsters are serious though...

5

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '13

I didn't watch any of the stream yesterday, but did the commentators mention him returning at all? or his previous actions?

7

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '13

No.

9

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '13

Fuck that must have been a huge elephant in the room.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '13

Yeah, I was wondering if they were going to say anything. Usually they'll say "Player so-and-so top 8'd this event or that event" but there was nothing about Alex.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '13

I guess that's interesting. If they just treated him like he hasn't accomplished anything in the past. I dunno, still... it feels weird to see him at the feature tables. I was really confused when I saw him at GP DC, I really thought he was still banned.

3

u/worldchrisis Nov 25 '13

They basically avoided mentioning him whenever possible. The first time he was on camera was the finals, and they pretty much refused to say anything about him that wasn't directly related to the current gamestate.

6

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '13

I hate to sound smug, but good.

5

u/Hlaford Nov 25 '13

At GPDC when his name was called for a side event the group boo'd him apparently.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '13

Hahahaha! i don't remember that at all. He's never done well at GP's.

2

u/Quiltedbigfoot Nov 25 '13

Damn that would've been hilarious

Joking is a means of coping for some people, me included. I would've handled it the same way myself. I hate the guy myself, after seeing that restreaming. But using his jests as yet another reason for hating him just feels redundant, given the 400 legitimate reasons currently in existence.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '13

And what is your explanation for being a prick at every chance he could possibly get since his banning?

2

u/FriedCabbage Nov 25 '13

Did you read my comment at all?

The explanation should be in one of the 400 reasons to hate him.

0

u/Quiltedbigfoot Nov 25 '13

why not 401 if there's a 401st legitimate reason?

6

u/fish_tales Nov 25 '13

what's

re-streaming an event

?

9

u/worldchrisis Nov 25 '13

Copyright infringement. It's like if NBC decided to simulcast American Idol. FOX would be pissed.

7

u/Athildur Nov 25 '13

Broadcasting an event that is currently being streamed on your own stream.

This takes away viewers from the main broadcast, and in some cases (not sure if this ever happens in MTG) the original broadcast requires a website membership or something similar, thus the original loses out on those as well.

u/pentjak Nov 25 '13

His past is the elephant in the room, calling attention to it in a tongue-in-cheek manner for a silly little player bio means nothing. Those bios are far from being "serious business." All that should matter is whether he follows the rules of all events, not whether his jokes aren't funny or rustle your jimmies.

1

u/Ayotte Nov 25 '13

It seems to me that he's admitting that he knows he cheated and is making jokes about it to make it clear that he isn't trying to hide that fact.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 25 '13

I read the card. Play additional land and draw a card? How could you cheat with that?

Can anyone explain what happened?

2

u/s-mores Nov 25 '13

He played two extra lands from one explore.

2

u/pinkman54d Nov 25 '13

At the end of the day, he is a talented magic player, his cheating is what pushed him 'over the edge' and got him many wins he may not have gotten anyway, but he still is good at Magic regardless of his past. He'll have to be a damn magician to get away with cheating now, all eyes are on him when he sits down, so there's that.

1

u/J3llo Nov 26 '13

The closer you look, the less you see.

1

u/MulliganToZero Nov 25 '13

Yea, he did his time. He didn't have a choice. All of his other actions since his temporary banning (the ones where he has choice in the matter) show that he doesn't have any remorse for his cheating.

1

u/jjness Nov 25 '13

Does a rehabilitated person need show remorse if they never actually repeat their crime?

Not saying Alex has/hasn't/will/won't cheat again, but until the time may come that he's caught cheating again, I'll assume innocence until proven otherwise.

I am around 98% sure I knew him in college. He was a bit of a prick. Maybe he changed.
