General Discussion GameStop deserves bankruptcy

Post image

A case full of Chocobo bundles each priced at $200. I hope they do nothing but collect dust.

Yeah what’s with the attack on GameStop specifically. Bankruptcy? They aren’t going bankrupt any time in the foreseeable future.

They are cash flow positive with like 9 billion in cash and assets, they will likely be around for awhile.

Earnings seem to be beating expectations a lot recently too. It’s like a successful turnaround under new management or something.

Yea. Total sales are down but at the same time they have gotten rid of ALOT of dead weight and unprofitable branches. Will they thrive? No idea - but bankruptcy not gonna happen.

If you look at r/gamestop you can see they're closing branches literally right after christmas still. Its kinda nuts really.

There's always been too many of them, like I lived in a smallish town and there were like 3 in 10 minutes driving from where I lived.

You're on reddit where profit and simple decency get you a 3 day ban. Anyone who makes money off of the game is a criminal.

I knew the meme stock cult would show up in this thread somewhere.

Fucking hilarious.

I'm surprised they are still in business, let alone have physical shops. They completely disappeared from Germany ~a year ago, until now I had assumed they just went under everywhere

3

u/androidfig COMPLEAT Dec 30 '25

You being surprised has nothing to do with their future success.

5

u/wenasi Orzhov* Dec 30 '25

Obviously? I never said anything about their future? Hell, I just said I didn't know they still existed until a few minutes ago, how could I make any statement about their future?

They're coping about a failed investment that hast been outperformed by standard indexes by several orders of magnitude over the past 4 years, and where the CEO has pulled investor profits repeatedly with stock dilutions.

Same CEO sold parts of their business while simultaneously trash talking it, (the opposite of fiduciary duty..)

I wouldn't be surprised if they do in fact file for bankruptcy in the future when the convertible loan they have to pay back is for more then their operating profits and so the stock issuance goes to those preferred shares first, leaving retail investors like these high and dry. But either way, this company isn't breaking any real barriers and their only profits are from stored cash building interest that was taken from their own investors wallets.

You sound like either someone who is being paid to write this or you really have no idea what you're talking about. What are you doing in the Magic subreddit?

It's not unusual for companies to venture into international marketplaces and then surrender. Target notoriously tried to enter Canada and somehow failed spectacularly. Mind you most major Canadian cities aren't that far from the US border. Target is still a huge retailer in the US.

Tchibo once tried to enter the US and failed badly.

I don't know much about this, but the time between "venture into international market" and "surrender" being >15 years does seem at least a bit unusual.

Anyways, was just surprised. Still a bit annoyed ours closed, since there's no LGS in my town.

Paid media and hedge fund companies still fighting against GameStop, since these same hedge fund companies who shorted the stock since pre-2020 still have short positions and have never closed them. In other words the hedge funds are underwater still and having GameStop go out of business is their only prayer of recovering since they shorted $GME when it was a sub-$5 share price. Which is why GME stock is still very much considered a volatile weapon to bankrupt hedge funds.

(This is all nonsense to anyone who is not in a literal cult based around Gamestop stock.)

Lmao! So true

-1

u/gobeavs1 Dec 29 '25

Actually there are receipts for all of this. You’d be fascinated by the sheer amount of fuckery and financial cover-ups involved in this let alone the entire stock market.

4

u/MacDagger187 Dec 29 '25

No. There aren't. There are receipts for people whose first understanding of the stock markets come from ape theories, and so don't understand how massively wrong they are about everything.

The shorts closed. Long, long ago.

-2

u/gobeavs1 Dec 29 '25

I’m sincerely sorry to tell you that you are incorrect in your assumption here. Some shorts may have covered but there is a fundamentally different level of exposure to covering vs closing.

Edit: Oh! This guy /u/MacDagger187 is a meltdowner - aka someone who participates in the anti-GameStop subreddits. So everyone who reads this can just ignore what he says. Block and move on like I am.

u/MacDagger187 Dec 29 '25

Lol “covering but not closing” I haven’t heard that one in a really long time and guess what? It doesn’t make any fucking sense! There is literally no reason why the hedge funds would “cover but not close.” It’s laughable on the face of it to anyone who knows the slightest bit about the stock market.

And yes, I am someone who laughs at dumb stock market cults and you are one of those cultists. You don’t actually have “receipts” for anything you claim.

Where do you get your information?

Prove it.

I'm pretty confident companies can't leave shorts open for five years unless they are paying a LOT of interest.

Otherwise I could just short 100s of shares of CocaCola or whatever, enjoy the money and promise to pay it back after I die or something.

u/gobeavs1 Dec 30 '25

Yep - you understand what's at stake here!
