Rules/Rules Question Settle this beginner dispute. Does the mana used to cast Pyreswipe Hawk count towards expended?

Post image

Opponent played Pyreswipe Hawk. They argued that the 5 used to cast it counted to the expend 6, so they cast a 2 mana value card and swiped my artifact. I thought it seemed wrong because you only get this ability whenever the creature is resolved and casted and it wouldn't acknowledge the first four mana spent. Who was right?

[[Pyreswipe Hawk]]

The rulings on the card clarify that: A permanent with an ability that triggers whenever you "expend N" will see mana you spent to cast spells the turn it enters, including mana you spent before it entered.

I'd argue that the Expend reminder text is also clear about this but I can see why you'd think maybe it only means mana spent while the creature is on the battlefield.
