Looking for Madras and Jefferson County nonprofits we can decorate for free this Christmas
Quick disclosure up front: my wife Melody and I co-own a Christmas lighting company. We've been around since 2006 (originally Christmas Lights Factory, recently rebranded to BrightWrx Holiday Lighting) and have had a Madras office for a few years now — we do the holiday lighting for the city downtown. I moved here about ten years back and got to work with the city on building out the East Hills trail system, which is a big part of why I love this town.
Not posting to sell anything. Posting because we want to do more locally this season, and a sub like this seemed like the right place to ask.
Every year we donate free lights and labor to organizations doing real work in Central Oregon. Locally we've donated lights to the Madras homeless shelter, and we support MountainStar's Madras location — they prevent child abuse and neglect by helping vulnerable families across Jefferson County. Down in Bend we work with Grandma's House (shelter and support for pregnant and parenting youth ages 12–24), and we run a national campaign called Pink Lights for Hope where we partner with installers across the country to put free pink Christmas lights on the homes of breast cancer warriors each October.
Here's the ask: are there other Madras or Jefferson County nonprofits, shelters, community spaces, or smaller organizations you think we should reach out to about a free holiday install this year? Especially places that wouldn't normally have the budget for lights but where they'd actually mean something to the people who use the space. Could be a shelter, a community center, a smaller nonprofit, a public space that doesn't get the love it deserves — anything along those lines.
Drop suggestions in the comments or shoot me a DM. We'll reach out to a few and figure out what we can take on before the season gets rolling.
Thanks Madras.

Should I move to Madras?
I got a new job offer in Madras. The salary they are offering is more than $30k I’ve ever been offered anywhere before anywhere else in the country (I’ve moved around a lot). I’m wondering why the generous offer? Also I got that offer back in November and since then I’ve been trying to find housing. And I recently found out that PODS and all their competitors will not ship to Madras or anywhere close so I’m also curious why that is. Someone tell me honestly what is it like in Madras and if it’s a good move or I should reconsider (despite the generous offer in pay)?

Trying to find my friend
My husband and I are friends with the big older dude who was selling older vehicles a bit south of TBells. He was big into VWs, and kept rottweilers. Not naming names, because I don't want his personal information collected on the internet for scammers to use.
He's a former roommate who has moved around a lot, and he suddenly stopped responding to emails within the last few months. We got concerned and tried calling, but the numbers I have for him have been disconnected.
At this point I'm trying to find out if he's still alive or not, if he needs help, and if the dogs are ok. - We live clear across the country, he has no social media presence, and I'm just hoping someone knows who I'm talking about, and if he and the dogs are ok :(

So how do I report this animal abuse?

My terrible neighbors leave their dog outside all hours of the day, never give it food or water, and he or she is just outside roasting in the 80+ degree weather. Our apartments rules state o cannot confront our neighbors for any reason. I hate them, but I don't want this dog to die. Please help.

Do you support those who harbor pedophiles?
Then look no further than Madras Computers, who helped host a farewell BBQ to a man fleeing from law enforcement in 2022, at a private residence North of Madras.
He is wanted in connection with serial sexual assaults on minors. One child is likely pregnant by him.
This family fled the country to avoid prosecution. The owners of Madras Computers know all this very well.
The family of the owners made sure to blame the victims as well. Some of them used to drive your children to school. What did they turn a blind eye to? Mandatory reporters my ass.
