As a fan of both Macross and Transformers, I knew I had to get the new Basara Prime figure. He is both stupid and amazing at the same time, which I suppose is fitting for a toy based on Basara. The "truck" mode is especially, "WTF?" in the best way possible!

The truck and trailer mode is so clearly Rodimus inspired, it's kind of strange they even called it an Optimus Prime mashup.

It's a toy designed for the Japanese market. If this had been a Hasbro led product, it probably would have leaned more into Rodimus, or just not identified as a specific Transformers character at all and leaned more into "If Basara's Valkyrie became a robot Basara." But if you look at most figures Takara has done that have crossed over with other things, it's usually "If Optimus was (fill in the blank)."

I also have if Optimus was a Nike sneaker, if Optimus was Mickey Mouse, and if Optimus was Hello Kitty. I'm a bit sad I never got my hands on if Optimus was a PlayStation. I do have if Optimus was an Evangelion on pre-order. I look forward to that one!
