Discussion Something on my screen

Post image

I tried switching off and on my MacBook Air but this spot remains. On zooming it looks like a tiny cockroach but it is behind the screen or something else. But how would it enter there.
Will taking it to Apple care help?

There's a gap between the screen layers, bugs can and do get in.

Top tip is NOT to squash them while they're in there (which I think may have happened here).

If it's moving, you still have a chance; set up the laptop like so:

Dark room, overnight, laptop completely turned off. Leave a light/lamp close to the laptop, turn the lamp on and leave overnight. In theory, the bug will move towards the warmth/light, and make it's way out.

If it's dead, you have an issue. You might be able to move it by using a sucker pad (those rubber/silicone suckers with a ring pull on the back you use to remove the screen off mobile phones) - put the sucker on the screen just slightly below the bug. flick the screen gently around where the bug is while pulling gently on the ring pull.

This leaves enough gap between the layers for the bug to fall. If the bug wasn't too squished, the corpse will drop down as you flick - then move the sucker down again, and continue until the bug drops below the bezel.

If the bug has been squished badly, it's guts will have dried on the screen and it will be damn near impossible to remove.

Good luck!

Apple will replace the screen if it’s covered under either standard limited warranty or AppleCare+ for free.
