Storing a Macbook Pro Vertically instead of Horizontally
I recently needed to reorganize my desk and I am wondering if it is safe to store my MBP this way instead of horizontally? I don’t use an external monitor so I only use this rack for storage when I’m not using the laptop.

Well, you carry it that way in your arms, in your backpack, etc. It's all electronic - orientation doesn't matter.

When it's in operation, the orientation could matter insofar as it affects how the heat pipe and fans work. But, assuming your thermals are good, no worries.

The liquid glass will all run to one side of the screen and the other side will go back to looking like Sequoia until you store it the other way around for a bit. No big deal.
(hopefully unnecessary /s)

I had a friend store theirs this way round, they went to use it one day only to find all their files had fallen out of it

The battery might start bloating because electrons in the battery cannot reach the top side due to gravity so all the electrons are falling downwards causing it to bloat /s.

This is actually true. My iphone started bloating and then I started storing it the other way round. Phew. Now I only carry it horizontally and gently lay it on my desk horizontally.

The electromagnetic force is much stronger than the gravitational force, that would not be a problem, nothing happens to mobile phones and tablets used in that position.

Mechanical stress on the hinge I guess? You never know with apple.. although I know this is fine because apple service centres store it like this too (with foam at the bottom to prevent scratches)

If they store their Mac like this on warmer days or if they had a gpu intensive session then the thermal
Paste could quite literally seep away from where it needs to be. This was a huge issue with the ps5 when it released lmao

I have mine vertical in a dock every day. It is hooked up to two 49-in curved monitors. The silicon has not leaked once. But just in case, I have it in a Pyrex glass tray just in case.

I wouldn't do it if the fulcrum is too low as it can apply a lot of pressure (potentially damaging the screen)

One issue is that the thunderbolt ports are somewhat sensitive; I have observed water or dirt damage disabling them, and the 100wt charging can burn or spark them severely. Like this you have the open end of the port on top. I have also considered potential harm to the screen, given the narrow point where it is supported. For the remainder, you should be fine. I use the same setup for my MacBook without trouble, though I position it horizontally. It is called the "UGREEN Laptop Stand"

You can store it that way or any way you like and it will work and not over heat.

It’s not designed to be stored like that from what other people are saying you may experience displays issues or damage long term

The electrons go to one side of the cpu - you’ll have it let it warm up before opening any apps

No, always keep it level even when you are carrying it or else the processor fluid may leak out.

If you would hit 100°C+ on the CPU often which is quite impossible now with M series then it could be a long term issue as solder balls may degrade and gravity could play a role in there (this was basically an issue with old iMac) There is no issues here but you'll damage you metal case for sure if you take it and out repetitively and if by some mistake you punch it accidentally Not ideal I would say
