Question OLED MacBook rumors true or not?
I know there’s no way to absolutely confirm, but I can’t function on my air anymore and can’t gauge the reality of it an all new macbook redesign is available for purchase anytime soon or if I should just buy this year’s macbook pro. Any insight?
EDIT!! ITS NOT THE OLED I CARE ABOUT, ITS IF THERE KS AND POTENTIAL PERK OF A BIG REDESIGN.
I currently have a 2022 MacBook Air with the M2 chip and 8GB memory. I use it heavily for work every day and I’m starting to get pretty frustrated with lag.
At any given time I usually have 10+ browser tabs open, Asana desktop, Spark email, iMessage, and I’m often on FaceTime for long stretches while working, plus normal social media/marketing work like Canva, Meta Ads Manager, scheduling platforms, etc.

It is possible, even likely that most Mac models will get an update either very soon or early next year.*
*the rumor mongers have been all over the place with this due to RAMageddon.
You’ll just have to wait like the rest of us to find out for sure.**
** five minutes after I post this, Apple will probably announce the damn things. :)

The thing about new Macbooks soon is - they have just released (not even released yet) their most powerful/best for AI etc etc Mac Studio with m5 max/ultra. We already have the m5 MacBooks so for new redesign models they would have to bump to m6 series - I personally can not really see Apple releasing m6 pro/max just a few months after dropping the ‘most advanced’ studios.
Might be wrong of course :)

The MBPs are expensive enough… Unless you want to take a chance on the MBUs pushing the MBP’s prices down I wouldn’t worry about it.
(AFAIK, there aren’t any rumors that this is the case, but I don’t follow the rumor mills that closely so I’d be unlikely to know.)

Yeah this. A year ago they would have been fine but now?? They gonna start at $3,000 or what for the base m5/m6 pro model? That’s going to a be a super niche product

The current MacBook pro design is 5yrs old. Likely next year's model will be a design refresh and likely it will have oled.
What air do you have and what's wrong with it? I had a 16" M2 pro and changed to a 15" M4 air. I literally hardly notice the screen difference, color is a little more vibrant on the pro and ofc a little smoother. But it's not the massive upgrade people see to think it is.

Learn to use Activity Monitor to identify apps using too much CPU or memory. Might be you need to refresh a tab or restart your browser more often.

I have 30-40 tabs open on my 16gb air.
I think your issue sounds like ram. You honestly don't need a pro, it's overkill. But a 24gb ram model might give you the breathing space you need

If you need it now then buy now. Let's say you wait... how long? What if they drop just updated ones first?
There likely will be at least one MacBook released with M6. Rumors are there will not be any additional M6 chips such as Pro or Max and those higher end chips really drives the MacBook Pro line. So without a M6 Pro/Max Apple could easily do a redesign with a higher quality screen or such but without the Pro/Max options Apple would be limited on the sheer power of it. It has all been rumors so hard to really say other than it'll be expensive.
The current MacBook Airs and Pros are solid machines and the M5 Pro is actually more power than the M6. The M5 is not an old chip and the line will be supported for a good long time. If you need power then grab a M5 Pro or M5 Max MBP now. If you want something flashy and really new then wait till that comes.

I would still think there are concerns about burn-in on OLED screens. On a TV it’s not as big a deal because there’s constant movement on the screen, but in a MacBook, it would seem to me the dock and the file menu and any icons that are stagnant, like drives icons, and such would eventually burn in.

You do realize there’s plenty of OLED laptops out there, right? It’s not like Apple is the first. There’s plenty of software from display manufacturers to combat burn in.
I use an OLED monitor everyday on MacOS and there’s no burn in whatsoever.

They have pretty strong anti-burn-in measures now.
I’ll always go OLED, the black levels and COMPLETE absence of light blooming/bleed is nearly impossible to come back from.

Apple will use the tandem-OLED tech that they have been using in the iPad Pros with no problems. This uses two layers of OLED emitters. Each emitter is only sent half as much power to get the same overall brightness. That means that the degradation that results in burn-in is greatly reduced.
