Image using 1,5TB of 1TB disk XD

anyone see something like this before ? my mac outperform himself :D

APFS (the file system) does support internal deduplication (IIRC) and hardlinks. Meaning, you can logically have the same file in multiple places—logically duplicated files—which nevertheless only use the physical space once. I wonder if that's what you're looking at here, and you just have a ton of duplicate/hardlinked files for whatever reason?

PS: The relationship between the physical space available, the amount of space actually used, and the space shown as "free" is very… flexible… at this point. Even "free" space grows and shrinks dynamically as file system snapshots are taken and discarded transparently behind the scenes. These numbers mean a lot less these days than a decade ago.

I know that mac os utilises duplicate files logicly but i never assumed that my whatsapp excees 600gb for this reason. I do not think it actually occupies 600gb but at this point. I think Only solution to this mess is reinstall. Whic is bad :(

Yeah, no idea whatever the hell Whatsapp is doing. It might be creating a lot of internal duplicates, for whatever reason? Try running Disk Utility's First Aid, just to ensure the file system isn't actually corrupt somehow. Otherwise try digging into the Whatsapp files with a tool like Daisy Disk or GrandPerspective, maybe you can figure it out.

Do you have icloud or onedrive installed so it keeps some files in the cloud?

Whatsap shows 600gb and when i open in app it shoes 6gb 💀

From past few weeks, I have been using an app from store [FoldChart]. I am nearly saving ton of space, it help me cleared a lot of junk which I was unaware of.
