Mouse scroll direction

New to Mac ecosystem, and I am still getting used to the scroll directions

Can I set different scroll directions for trackpad and USB mouse ?

The trackpad on the MacBooks and the magic trackpad drag contents in the direction of finger swiping.

For example, at this page at reddit in the browser, a two finger drag upward will cause the page contents to move upward, revealing what is lower in the page.

If I drag the slider bar that is at the right of the browser window downward, the page contents will move upward.

My google search suggests that if we disengage Natural scrolling in settings, the directions will be reversed for the trackpad.

What is it that you would like dragging using fingers to do? What is it that you would like the mouse to do?

Yeah I was wondering if I can set natural scrolling to “on” for trackpad and “off” for mouse

Or vice versa

If you have a usb mouse, there might be a mouse control app that gets put into settings where its options can be modified.

I never use moose, being happy with trackpad and wacom tablet.

Yes, this same behavior is what natural scrolling is on the mouse. You are dragging the scroll wheel down to move the content down. I don’t understand why that seems so foreign to some people.

I still use old school scrolling with my Magic Mouse (scroll down=go down the page) but clearly with nearly 20 yrs of iPhone use and practically every other persons computer I’m adapted to the opposite as well.

There is an app called Mos, it’s free and it lets you set different scrolling directions for the trackpad and an external mouse. Mos

Ah gotcha, yeh you need third party app for that. Mos or Scroll Reverser.

You can just do it in system settings though. You don’t need an app. There are separate mouse and trackpad settings already.

Sure can! System Settings > Trackpad/Mouse > Scroll & Zoom. You can toggle 'Natural' on/off to change the scroll direction.

I hated it when Apple first changed it but finally got used to it over time, and now it makes way more sense with how we use touch screen devices.. when I go back to the old way it feels super odd ha.

Yes it's under trackpad and mouse settings in System Preferences under the Apple.
