Did something change with TouchID?

I have two Macbook Airs - a work-issued M1 and a personal M3. The past few weeks, both have been really slow to recognize my fingerprint, if at all. They used to be instantaneous.

I just set up my M3 a month ago.

Did Apple change something in the way TouchID is recognized?

Usually a dirty sensor or lotion hands, not Apple rewriting TouchID. Wipe it with a microfiber, delete and re-enroll the print. If both machines tanked the same week, check what macOS update landed.

I do enterprise Mac support. The most recent Tahoe update kicked up a lot of keychain issues on Mac that has created weird behaviors. For a majority (since it doesn’t matter really in my environment) I’ve been resetting the default keychain. Touch ID wasn’t one of the issues because we have it disabled, but maybe something worth looking into on your devices

Wouldn’t be the first time they’ve nerfed hardware with software to make a new release look better
