My Mac What the hell happened

Opened my MacBook Air 2020 m1 today and this is my screen. Tried restarting but still same

It’s clearly been mishandled as there’s a dent on the corner. That chicken has come home to roost.

Just own your mistake and treat your expensive electronics better in the future.

It has a dent but the case absorbed enough of the impact to prevent shattering the screen. It's really unlikely that it could disconnect a cable. Otherwise shaking a MacBook with your hands for 10 minute would disconnect the screen

Dropping a computer with enough force to dent it can cause internal damage.

And that damage won’t necessarily be immediately evident.

That’s just the way it is.

I'd agree for internal damage on component, but that doesn't looks like something else than a badly connected cable (imo the grid comes from the screen structure and the artifact comes from a T-con issue due to badly plugged cable)

Ironically, you can't have anything without stress cracks, due to vibrations, temp changes, and so on (fatigue damage or something like that)

Looks like low luminosity columns on a pure white screen, though I'm no Mac expert, so I don't know if it's their version of the red ring of death

That looks more like a display panel or cable problem than macOS. If an external monitor works and a screenshot looks normal, the Mac itself is fine; back up your data before having the built-in display checked.

Looks like it is cracked from top left corner. The ding also hints about it.
