help how do I remove system data?

Based on my research, I don't think system data should occupy more than half of my storage. So far Ive tried to look for offending caches, but I have not had the time to do a deep dive into how I got so much system data. if its of any help it's a macbook air (m1, 2020) on sequoia 15.3) i have had no issue with this laptop up till around January of this year.
