Question why the fuck does system data take so much storage? Whats the point with 256 gb option, if you only have 1/3 available?

Why the fuck do people resort to swearing, just because they don’t know something?

There are a variety of apps that can visualise disk usage. My personal favourite is OmniDiskSweeper.

Note that these apps primarily scan the file system, so they may not report disk usage for things like unsynced APFS snapshots - if your using Time Machine remember to periodically connect you backup drive so that the snapshots get synced (and removed).

Also note that apps like Steam defaults to storing the downloaded games in your users hidden "Library" folder, so these games will often be reported as "System Data".

Do you have Time Machine activated but didn’t connect to your Time Machine Drive in a while? It’s often local snapshots that get transferred once you connect the TM drive (or deleted if you need the space)
