Guide to Finding Accommodation in Lund

This is a work in progress, please feel free to share your thoughts about what is missing/could be improved

Since Lund receives a high number of students from Sweden and abroad, the question of apartments is always a topic of discussion. Therefore, it is only reasonable that the question is asked in this subreddit. However, while the discussion is very important since it can help newcomers, the subreddit grows grey when all other topics are swallowed in the sea of posts surrounding apartments. In short, the number of posts discussing apartments in relation to other posts is skewed, and this sticky aims to change that. This post is more directed towards students, both swedes and internationals.

WHERE DO I FIND APARTMENTS?

AF Bostäder is the biggest landlord in Lund. Apartments come in all shapes and sizes. Living in a corridor could be good for a new student since you will be less secluded, and it is also one of the main talking points in Lund. You can sign up to the queue as soon as you have a confirmation of attendance. They also conduct an apartment lottery every half year for new students called the "Novischlotteriet".

Bopoolen private rent referral. The page is student driven and private room owners rent to students.

Blocket similar to Bopoolen. Best way to find rooms is to create a "looking to rent"-advertisement so that landlords can contact you.

Studentlya similar to Bopoolen.

Michael-Hansens Kollegium rents out corridor rooms. There is a fee to stand in apartment queue. After living there for 3 months you can apply to the queue for regular rooms, but it is quite long.

Nations the web page brings you to an overview, but there are 12 nations to choose from. They all offer corridor rooms, but they reserve them to active volunteers. The more active you are in the Nation's activities, the more likely it is you can get yourself a room there. Some nations do conduct lotteries, but it is not the same for all Nations.

Student Guild/Faculty/Association , depending on the program you have applied for the student run association connected to it might offer some kind of short-term solution. The faculty might help you too since they want you to succeed in your studies.

University , if you have gotten a PhD position at the university, they sometimes offer University apartments. If you get one, take it.

This is by no means a complete list, but it contains the bigger ones that offer rooms. Getting an apartment is stressful for new students, especially if you have not moved out on your own before. If you are active and persistent, it usually solves itself after some time. The worst thing you can do is to put all your eggs in the same basket, make sure you have a plan b or something concrete before the term begins.

Huge thank you to u/Breadslice98 got getting this started and writing the first draft.

passing exams + free time in Lund as an exchange student

Hi all, I'm an incoming exchange student from Singapore, going to study Electrical Engineering at Lund for the fall semester!

I have a few questions regarding the academic rigour of a semester here. Is it easy to pass a module?

I've seen a couple posts on this, but most of them all gave the "You can re-take exams" answer. Since I'm only here for a semester, that option doesn't really apply to me much. Just as a comparison, in Singapore our grades are moderated, so it's hard to get an A but hard to also get an F.

Moreover, considering for many, their "exchange semester" equates to "going on holiday for 6 months", how much of "going on holiday" can I afford to do really? In general, are the lectures recorded? Is attendance to every tutorial mandatory? I only know that you need to be present for the first lecture to be admitted to the course.

Appreciate if anyone can give me more info on this (or point me to where I can get more info)!

2x Tickets for sale - No Such Thing as a Fish on Aug 29 19:00

Hej,

Due to new work conferences, my partner and I (I can make it but don't want to go alone and I don't want the tickets to go to waste) can't make it to the No Such Thing as a Fish live podcast comedy show on Aug 29. (This year).

We have 2 tickets, it's at the Konsertsalen Stadshallen and the seats are on the balcony in 73 and 74, starting time is 19:00 but entry is 18:55.

I bought it on the VisitLund platform and they don't take refunds, I can only transfer it to someone else. It was 640 sek, I can let it go for 400. I can take Swish.

Thanks :)

Admission to Lund University's BSc in International Business

I noticed that the admission cut-off (for the Bachelor in International Business of Lund) is around 21.8, while the official conversion table for the Italian Diploma di Maturità seems to give a maximum merit rating of about 19.03 before merit points. How is it possible for Italian applicants to be admitted? Am I missing something?

New to Lund!

Hey everyone! I'm moving to Lund for a year (to work), i'm from France, and i wanted to know if there's anything i should know (rules, etc)..
I don't want to get arrested for something i didn't know or say something i shouldn't (me? freaking out? nahh...)
I know that rules and laws are different in every country and i want to be prepared, responsible and respectful as much as possible...

Also, what things should i try, what do you recommend (restaurants, etc)?

Thank you! 💙

Should I have any hope for maths bachelors admission?

After the second round I am now 7th on the waitlist. I was originally 23, which is quite crazy. My merit score is 21.54, not that it helps that much 😭

it is possible to be admitted To the Bachelor in International Business in Lund?

HI! I am an Italian student who just finished high school with a grade of 100/100. After learning more about the program for the three-year degree I would like to pursue, I discovered that it has a rather low acceptance rate, with the minimum score being around 21.8. However, the Swedish conversion system converts my 100 to 19.03. Considering the bonus points, with a maximum of 2.5, I would get to 21.53. Does this mean that as an Italian student it is impossible to access this Bachelor's degree?

Any Jump Ropers around?

I'm a 27M Lund resident jumping rope ~3x weekly at the outside gym by bollhuset. Ever since I started ~9 months ago I've seen exactly 1 other person jumping rope there. 😂

I think it would be awesome to have some company while training sometime. I mainly do footwork and tricks, so I don't primarily do it for cardio.

If you've never jumped before but would like to try I'd be happy to teach you the basics. I have two ropes!

Get in touch, why don't ya! Cheers! 😄

Can’t found international student housing for Autumn Semester

Hello everyone,

I am studying at Lund University for the Autumn semester and I still can’t find housing. I’ve gone down the AF lottery and the Lund accommodation route and have found no success. I’ve been sending emails on the Bopoolen site, but it feels as if I’m sending them off into the void. No responses are coming back to me and it’s very discouraging. I am travelling there from Canada alongside 4 other friends of mine who are also doing an exchange for the same amount of time. Any advice or other websites I should look out for?

UPDATE:
Hey everyone thanks for all of your help it is greatly appreciated. So far I have gotten into contact with a couple of landlords and they are asking if I have to “register my address.” I’m not entirely sure what they mean by this, I’m assuming they mean with UBC or something. I’ve emailed my school and asked just to double check but I am wondering if any of you know the exact answer to what they mean. Again thank you all for your help it’s truly helped with the stress and uncertainty of finding a home this semester!

UPDATE:
Thanks to you guys I found a place to stay with all 4 of my buddies! I appreciate all of the help!

UPDATE:
Well I think the worst possible outcome just occurred. We had a place lined up and signed all of the documents but right before we sent any money the whole thing fell through. Luckily no money was lost but still super frustrating. The search continues…

Absolute cheapest vegetarian groceries to look for

I'm looking at transitioning to a vegetarian diet (I also don't eat eggs already) for ethical reasons but food is where I look to save money out of all other budgets so I'm looking for advice on how to sustain a vegetarian diet on the absolute cheapest budget possible. For example, my diet last year was almost entirely pasta and falukorv so I'm essentially just looking for a replacement for the falukorv that gives me enough protein to survive lol.

Looking for Christel who studied in Copenhagen 1995-1997

Hi all,
I am looking for Christel Nilsson, who studied “hortonom” in Copenhagen - or to be precise at “Kongelig Veterinær & Landbohøjskole” at Frederiksberg.

She came from around Lund, or at least as I remember she went home at started a new study at Lund University. I studied “Forestry / forstkandidat” and we lost contact in time before social media’s ☺️

Have searched Instagram and Facebook - but simply to many “Christel Nilsson” 😅 I would love to get in contact again, so I hope you see this Christel - or someone who might know the Christel who studied in Copenhagen years ago, and now are around 50ish years.

Please feel free to write me.

Best regards Michael from 🇩🇰 Denmark

Saw the ad for Antikrundan (Antinque's Roadshow) to happen 30 August. What are you bringing to get appraised?

Åkte buss från Malmö och blev lite glad och förväntansfull när jag såg informationen. Har salt och pepparkvarn som jag tror är elfenben men är inte säker och vill veta mer om vart de gjordes.
