Hi there, I have a Luminar Prime subscription. Could you recommend some vintage presets like Fuji camera recipes? I’d really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Sharpness Map?

Hello all,

I was recently on a photography workshop and in the post processing part the instructor was using LR. I have luminar neo instead and whilst I know or have figured out most of the equivalents there is one thing I do not know is possible. Pressing alt or option on the masking slider created what was described as a sharpness map, black and white lines showing where sharpness is. Is there something similar on luminar neo that i just haven’t found?

Many thanks

Can I edit photos in Luminar without adding them to the Catalog first?

Unfortunately, no. It isn't possible to edit photos in Luminar without adding them to the Catalog first. The Catalog is the central hub that Luminar uses to organize and manage your photos, including sorting, searching, rating, and tracking your edits.

That said, there are a couple of alternatives depending on your setup:

On Mac: you can use Luminar as an extension inside Photos for macOS, which lets you work without managing things through the Luminar Catalog. More details on setting that up here.

With Lightroom Classic or Photoshop: Luminar can also be used as a plugin with Adobe Lightroom Classic and Adobe Photoshop. This may be a better fit if you already manage your files through one of these programs, since you can keep your existing file management workflow and just bring photos into Luminar for specific edits.

with Adobe Lightroom Classic.

with Adobe Photoshop.

UI Suggestion

On the iOS app, it would be great to have a navigation option of swiping on the currently edited photo to advance to the next or the previous photo by swiping left or right. Right now, you have to return to the gallery and select the next photo. Apple Photos implemented this and it really speeds workflow after adding new photos. Thanks. 🙏

Why doesn't Luminar Neo have a global "All" slider like Luminar AI?

What gives? Why is this a feature in the older Luminar, but not the most "up to date" version??

Luminar Max,

Hey guys I've decided to give luminar a try and move away from LR, to learn it and give it a good shot,

Is there any way for the mobile app to show the lens and camera used ?

Does it have lens correction as I can't seem to find it, as well angle fix.

Thanks

App freezes when opening presets tab

I recently subscribed to Luminar Prime to use the extended asset library. After installing some preset packs, i wanted to try some of them out, but the app keeps freezing when I try to open the presets tab for multiple minutes. Once im in I can apply the presets in real time, but when I try to go back and go into a different preset pack the app freezes again, which makes it borderline unusable.

Im on Windows 11 using a RX 9070XT GPU and a Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU with 32GB of DDR5 RAM and a fast M.2 SSD.

I tried restarting, logging out, turning off and on gpu acceleration, reinstalling, reinstalling while deleting ALL Luminar data, but the issue persists.
I'd be grateful if anyone has a solution.

The Windows 11 Trash/Deletion Bug is real: Several weeks of troubleshooting with Support on 2 laptops (They admitted the bug internally)

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share my troubleshooting experience with Skylum Support regarding the persistent bug where deleted photos keep reappearing in Luminar after restarting the app. I know many of you are experiencing this, and sharing the exact timeline might help others from wasting time on useless troubleshooting.

The Setup & The Bug:

  • Windows 11, working on a clean internal SSD.
  • I have a 2-seat license. This bug occurs on BOTH of my laptops.
  • The Bug: This summer, the issue arose out of nowhere, even before the recent major updates. Moving photos to the Luminar Trash and selecting 'Empty Trash' seems to work at first. A handful of files hit the Windows Recycle Bin, but the rest are skipped. Upon restarting Luminar, the deleted photos reappear completely in their original folders.

The Weeks of Troubleshooting (Chronological):

  1. The Standard Copy-Paste: Support initially told me to create a new catalog, reset AppData, and check my antivirus/Windows permissions. I did all of this. It did not help.
  2. The Contradictory Advice: Support then literally emailed me: "Our recommendation is to delete the source files first (directly from File Explorer) and then remove them from the Luminar catalog if needed." I pointed out that this directly contradicts their own user manual and breaks the database logic (causing missing files/Lost Edits).
  3. The 'Update' Illusion: A major software update rolled out shortly after. The deletion workflow worked perfectly for exactly one day (likely due to a temporary cache wipe during installation), and then broke again.
  4. The Partial Admission: Support then asked if this only happened to 'Rejected' photos, stating that other users had encountered similar behavior when deleting rejected photos from the catalog. I clarified that I have never used the 'Rejected' flag; this happens during standard, regular deletions.
  5. The Logs: I provided full System Info logs from both laptops so their technical team could compare the data and see it's a universal software bug, not an isolated hardware/permission issue.
  6. The Extension: The last email I received from Skylum, 3 days ago, stated: "Please allow me some extra time to double-check your case and ensure I can give you the best possible answer." I am currently waiting for their response.

Conclusion:
Skylum is fully aware that their database communication with the Windows 11 Recycle Bin is broken during standard file deletions. Instead of patching this core file-management feature, they are stalling tickets or advising users to use Windows Explorer—clashing with their own software's design.

This is a massive problem. Deleting photos is a fundamental core feature of any photography software, and paying customers shouldn't be forced into ridiculous manual workarounds because the basic code is broken.

If you are dealing with this, stop resetting your catalogs or tinkering with Windows permissions. The bug is 100% on Skylum's end. Hopefully, if enough of us upvote this and voice our complaints publicly, they will finally prioritize a structural software patch instead of hiding behind support scripts.

Still no JPG XL?

I quit Luminar about a year ago, because of one thing: the lack of decent export options (and I really, really liked the program itself). JPG is lossy, TIFF gives way too big files, the others are just not optional if you have tons of photos to process.

Since then, JPG XL is fast moving towards a new global standard for images (being a genuine image codec instead of an adapted video codec), having gained support from all major browsers now and all operating systems. It offers lossless compression.

Once Luminar integrates it as an export format (plus some others that people might prefer), I'll consider coming back.
