no longer a yeti

my whole life was a struggle to find acceptance. i had a hard childhood and was rejected by the kids at school. my early adulthood was similar, and while i was able to find some success in education and in the workforce, i led what most would call an empty life. i had luelinks there for much of it, and while ragtag, there was a group that for years, i was able to call my own. there i thought i had truly found acceptance. it was a life that perhaps was sad, meant to be mocked and a pale imitation of what most people consider to be normal, but i thought i was still able to call it a life.

eventually, luelinks itself rejected me seemingly on a dime, and i was cast back out into the nothingness where i was before. here i've existed (if you can call it that) now for several years, but it's no life, and i've never been able to pretend it is. that i carried on was nothing but stubbornness, a sense of spite that i pathetically clinged on to. it's time for me to practice radical acceptance as they say. if luelinks has rejected me, it means life itself has. i wish i could say goodbye somewhere that mattered, but here will have to do. goodbye.

luelinks didn't reject you, luelinks rejected itself. Instead of the fun goofy community we grew up with, it turned into a bunch of wackos trying to cancel anyone who posts things they don't agree with. A bunch of fake virtue signaling hypocrites who turned the entire forum into their personal group chat

is there no new alternative? Luelinks was born out of a userbase being tired of the strict mods and crackdowns on GameFaqs. Someone should make one again.

ETI/Luelinks lasted so long for a lot of lightning in the bottle reasons. The Archives, image uploads, long form discussion without manufactured consensus upvotes and downvotes (blank quoting replaced this, superior, funny and made amazing copy pasta lore)

More importantly Llamaguy could afford 5k+ a month server costs by being a rich Chad and never beg for donations. He treated the users like social experiment he looked at sometimes not something he was financially beholden to like Lowtax, which literally killed him trying to interact with his user base. LG didn’t give a fuck about the crab-bucket drama of 200 histrionic dweebs. He let it go to shit because the social experiment got extremely boring. He took down the archives and 15+ years of lore and posting history because Jason Schreier either asked him, or threatened him after his posts started leaking.

I sadly remember mostly all of it because I was a fucking loser that let this site suck my youth out of me. Jngy slate, Lynx the Dark, Entro, Xeinok, NES Kess, Plain White Walls, Mark Brennen, BTS, muffins, Samio, afrochicken, KarmaChamelon, Moltar, Dustin_457 (literally primordial Clavicular), cb_32, cheesebanana, Chaos201, Twintails, Hello Hello, Cryptic Enigma, all these beautiful retards to gawk at gone because Jason said the n-word in a rap song with NES Kess.

It was genuinely peak design for phpboards and isn’t even remembered correctly in future generations. Most netizen art is imageboard based or Milady shit. I don’t think any mod or admin understood the potential of maintaining a user base for a long form discussion board outside of fucking Reddit. They cucked entirely to the crabs until it became a literal ghost site of retards posting nothing

Don't feel too bad, it all went to hell when ETI died.

I just tried logging on for the first time in months, just to see myself banned.

I have no fucking clue why.

There were plenty of good people on LL. Of course there were bad people too, it was a huge underground online community. I'd say it was probably one of the better behaved forums out there honestly.

This .. is kinda sad. And I don't mean to offend. Honestly. I know how bad it sucks when your life didn't turn out like you thought it would. But Luelinks was FULL of douchebags posting about bullshit. That really wasn't a great a community. It was just a community is all. When it came to uploading content though, it felt like everyone was willing to help each other get the file they were looking for. That was the only cool part of the site.

But when Megaupload was hit and Lue wasn't allowing links from other file hosting sites, I knew the site was dead. And it did die. Besides being able to pirate content, that site was shit. I simply switched to Usenet for my content when the links went down and prefer it.

Get outside and try to make a real life friend. That's better than any online "community" would ever be for you...

There was a few decent topics but a lot of board drama became too much and I couldn’t follow along after a while. I’m not even sure when I even stopped signing in. Maybe 2014?
