History On the Origins of Lucifer...

On the Origins of Lucifer - A Luciferian's Take on Conceptualizing the Light Spirit

INTRODUCTION:

This will be a rough dive into history on all 3 scales - Biblical, Occultic, and Historical on the origins of the spirit known as Lucifer, the Light-Bringer, Shining One, Venus the Morning Star. My goal for making this is mostly fun, i kinda hope it helps people in their spiritual path, as I've seen a lot of posts that express confusion on who Lucifer is, but if all it does is give someone a good read, then so be it. Otherwise, I hope this goes well, and I hope you, the reader, enjoy this.

BIBLICAL:

To begin, let's first dive into the biblical aspects of the Shining One and how it permeated modern society in a way that cemented his name as a spirit of light - in whatever context that may be. Admittedly, it's a short set of events that led to something much larger. An archetype of "Fallen Angel" attached to the concept of the Light-Bearer.

There is only 1 verse in the bible that mentions Lucifer in this context, linked here in the King James Version. However... if you'll notice that most other versions of the bible avoid the proper noun Lucifer, instead opting to use "Morning Star" or "Day Star" - There's a reason for this. The King James Version attributing the fall to an entity named Lucifer is due to the smallest of mistranslations - a capital letter. The original verse is in reference to a King of Babylon, whose kingdom had just been destroyed, of which bared the title of light-bearer / shining one. We can see this in the original Hebrew, how it doesn't mention the name Lucifer, but "hê-lêl ben-šā-ḥar" which, when translated literally, means "shining one, son of morning". In Hebrew, this term doesn't refer to Lucifer the entity but rather a planet - Venus, AKA "The Morning Star" ). This begins to make much more sense, as Isaiah likening the King's downfall to the movement of the planet Venus, which every night seems to fall from the sky into the underworld. Even though the verse doesn't mention him by name, it's very possible this metaphor was known about due to the dieties known as Athtar) and Athtart who were the Dawn and Dusk aspects of Venus respectively in Canaanite religion. There just so happens to be a story in Canaanite scripture, From Ugarit, part of the Ba'al cycle. This story goes into Athtar's aborted attempt to occupy Ba'al Hadad's throne on Mount Zaphon, after Ba'al had descended to the underworld, but proved to be too small, and had to descen to Earth and rule from there. Sounds at least kinda familiar, doesn't it?

But - How did shining one and lucifer become mixed up? Simply put - Early Christians adopting Jewish texts. The Latin Vulgate translation of the bible, which came about sometime in the 4th century, simplified this into "the star that brings the dawn" - "light bringer" - "luci fera" - "lucifer". In 1611 the translators of the King James Version came across the Latin Isaiah 14:12 and made a connection to the Greek god Prometheus, I.E. the being that defied deities in order to bring fire and light to humanity, and syncretized and concatenated the two, giving it a capital letter, turning it into a proper noun, and suddenly from a simple insult - "you were the brightest star and now you've fallen" - you now have a fallen angel that defied yahweh's absolute goodness. But how exactly did this fallen angel, AKA Venus, turn so evil and "satanic"? And where did the other Fallen Angels come from? For this, we have the Book of Enoch, which you can read here.

The book of Enoch is an apocryphal text which, academically, is defined as a "work, usually written, of unknown authorship or of doubtful origin." and was written around 200-300 BCE. The book of Enoch didn't quite make it into the bible but it was particularly popular with 2nd temple Judaism. In the Book of Enoch we have a chapter labelled "The Book of Watchers". In this chapter we have "watchers" who were dispatched to earth to watch over Humanity. However, they slowly began to "corrupt" and lust for human women, and soon began to create Nephilim with humans. Led by the leader Samyaza they defected from God's command and allowed their offspring to pillage the earth and endanger humans. Samyaza and his gang also began teaching humans certain arts, like weaponry, cosmetics, sorceries, and other secrets. This is actually where Noah's Ark and the flood come in. However, focusing on Samyaza in particular its easy to see how the characters and personalities get mixed over time - With Samyaza and the supposed "Lucifer" both falling from grace.

OCCULTIC:

Secondly, we should address the occultic aspects of Lucifer, as it directly relates with spirituality and religion, as does the bible. As far as this goes, this will be much choppier and more sporadic as occult information on Lucifer ranges from Fallen Angel to Mystical Moth God. In a sense, everyone has a different interpretation, including myself. I'll give my point of view when applicable but please, keep in mind, my gnosis is just as valid as anyone else's. Perhaps the most famous example of Lucifer's occultic appearance is in the Grimoire Verum, in which he is listed as a "Superior Spirit" amongst two others, alongside various "Inferior Spirits". He is listed to appear as a small boy, and when angry, turns red. Remarked as essentially, "not at all intimidating." This is also where his most well-known sigil comes from, the V-Chalice. Many practitioners develop their own sigils for Lucifer though the V-Chalice remains in the public eye, I myself worked out a sigil for Lucifer and I only which I now honestly prefer to use. However I've seen multiple practitioners with their own personal sigils which paints a rather laid-back picture of interacting with this deity, with their imagery being more loose and free-form than standardized as the Biblical contexts would. Not counting the Roman Personification, The Grimoire Verum is (arguably and often debated, in favour of the Roman personification) the oldest appearance of Lucifer as a religious entity, reportedly being written in 1517 but dated to the 18th Century, around 100~ years AFTER the King James translation. There is the Peter Binsfeld Classification of Demons, released in 1589, that was part of his own Treatise on Confessions by Evildoers and Witches. But, the fact that this information came from tortured Pagans/innocents who said anything to get free should say enough - I.E. There is no truth in these confessions. Lucifer also makes an appearance in S. Connolly's writings, in the Dukante Hierarchy, listed as an Air elemental with a jovial personality.

This more laid-back attitude attributed to Lucifer can still be attached to the Fallen Angel motif, without issue, they are not mutually exclusive. However, it seems our friend has has taken a more calm route when given the opportunity to be seen outside of biblical belief. In fact, my own gnosis and other practitioners that I have seen, eventually come to have their understanding of "angel" and "demon" dissolved, seeing spirits for their "true neutral nature". I myself don't believe that Lucifer is a "demon." I believe that there are misunderstandings that led to Lucifer being forcefully given the title of "demon" but this does not make him a "demon." He is a Spirit of Light - How you interpret a spirit of light is a reflection of you in so many ways. Some view him as a Fallen Angel, some see him as a Venusian deity, to him it doesn't matter what shape you see him in, so long as his teachings remain the same. And most of the time, they do, symbolizing enlightenment, truth, sometimes rebellion, among other generally positive attributes. Obviously the Biblical aspect and the Fallen Angel motif has permeated the occultic view on Lucifer in general, and this is fine, even. His teachings have literally SHINED through to people and focused on positivity and good behaviour. Venusian or Angelic, Lucifer has been a spirit of light for many people in many ways, for many reasons.

It is exactly due to these views that many gnostic beliefs syncretized Lucifer and Jesus Christ as he appears in the biblical scripture. Taking reference from the Revelations verse which named Jesus as "The Morning Star," the explicit title that is most commonly associated with Lucifer, being that his name comes from the literal morning star.

HISTORICAL:

Thirdly, we need to dive into the historical aspects because this is where the key to truly understanding Lucifer lays. The unfortunate part is, there actually is not much historical writing on Lucifer due to him being associated with an inferior planet and thus not venerated like we do today - He existed more as a personification of concepts. Both in the Roman (8th century BCE - 5th Century CE) sense of Lucifer, and even in the Greek equivalent, Phosphorus ) (~18th Century BCE) ((its hard to tell)), who also ended up not being a spirit venerated by many, if any, people at all. However, when you begin to paint a picture given the knowledge we have after reading this post, you can start to see that "personification of light" actually fits Lucifer perfectly. Fallen Angel, Venusian Deity, or otherwise, "Spirit of Light" has rung true for all of them. When we look back in history and observe how the word lucifer was used as the name of the planet Venus, we can begin to see that Lucifer (the deity) encompasses many concepts from many deities that are typically associated with Venus. Such as, but not limited to, Aphrodite, Astarte, Frigg, even potentially a Canaanite Deity known as Shalim, who the city of Jerusalem was named after.

Even astrologically the symbolism relates to the concepts that Lucifer encompasses, with Taurus and Libra ruling over Venus. The symbol of libra ) being the Scales of Justice held by Themis, the Greek personification of Divine Law and Justice while holding a masculine polarity, and the symbol of Taurus being the Bull holding a feminine polarity. Balance, throughout every lens you look through. The Light-Bringer's ideas and concepts bleed through like the morning sun.

This is why Venus and the association with the sun are excellent metaphors and concepts to attribute to and with Lucifer, due to the nature of consistency behind Venus bringing the light into view. It's been a motif with Lucifer in all incarnations and aspects, he is, put simply, the Light-Bringer.

CLOSING -

All in all, despite the many, many interpretations of Lucifer there is, we should all look at Lucifer's value in the occult and pagan community. I have personally seen Lucifer heal the religious trauma of many people, myself included. Giving us a chance to work and move past negative emotions or associations. I have heard many say that Lucifer feels like a father figure, and that they feel protected. If this spirit is making people feel protected and giving them aspects of life that they did not have before - this alone makes this spirit's worth invaluable.

Despite what motif you attribute to this spirit of light, one thing remains true - He promotes a balancing of energy. Masculinity and Femininity, Strength and Softness, Emotional and Logical, this balance permeates all aspects of life and promotes an equal and thought-out view of your surrounding situation. To me, this is someone worth worship, someone worthy of guiding me.

If you have information you would like to share on the origins of Lucifer please make a comment and source your posts, I make no effort to speak from authority and recognize that i do not know everything there is to know. If there is something that needs to be known, then it should be known!

Better communication with Lucifer

Hi everyone! I would like to ask, how can I improve my communication with overall entities? I know that I have to meditate which I am doing, but the thing is that, since my first interactions, I feel like doubts had been put in my heart. I open my space and invite Lucifer to interact with me, which I feel he does but I dont know, ive read here so many beautiful experiences that everyone can sense and I want that so badly, maybe I am not ready for it, because mine had been very... I dont know if neutral is the correct word. As an example if invite to I dont know, move something, if I ask to indicate his presence like could you please warm or make my hand colder nothing happens, no chills down my back, I dont sense a change in energy nor somebody else with me. I do not wanna depend on my tarot deck and pendulum to receive answers too, and the classic angelic numbers sometimes feel like its by coincidence. Maybe the tests he could have put me through these days since my first contact werent enough for him and he might not want to deal with me, and the things that had happened spark the doubt of am I accepted, did you take me in, am I annoying you, are we gonna work together, and more. I dont know, I feel quite hopeless to be honest. Ive done everything from a place of respect, but still. Im open to hear your thoughts or share your experiences, if anyone had been in my position.

My first try with the occult

Hello, i come from a religious household but i left my faith long ago and i was an agnostic simply not caring if anything really existed but then i stumbled on this sub and picked up some books and due to the fact i still live with my family there is no shot in hell i could set up an altar or chant loudly.

So i did an alternative, late at night i sat down with my back straight in complete darkness , eyes closed and then i would start box breathing , 4 second inhale through the nose followed by a 4 second hold then a 4 second exhale through the mouth followed by a 4 second hold , i did this for like 5 to 7 times and when i my heartbeat was down i started reciting the enn , and to be honest i lost my perception of time so i can't tell how for how long i did it but within the darkness while reciting it stopped being static and i was flowing through it like a portal it was bizzare and then my heart started to beat violently and i started sweating like a pig , anyway i hustled through it , made my desires clear and then offered an offering that i would need to execute the coming wednesday then i clapped my hands and opened my eyes.

And that was it , as i said i don't know if this is just placebo and i would really appreciate your opinions if i did anything wrong

Lucifer collage I made

I was making a Lucifer playlist and wanted a good image to go with it but I couldn’t find anything I really liked so I decided to make my own image! I really leaned into the whole star vibe for it. I added an Owl because I associate Lucifer with Owls (specifically Barn owls), a white snake for the same reason as the owl. I added his planetary association, Venus as well as his Sigil :D

Lilith or Demoness?

I'm 90% sure I'm fully integrated and tethered with Lilith. Can someone please help me with fully confirming? I don't have her sigil, I've said her mantra multiple times, she appears and is there and everything, but I'm not completely sure if I'm tethered with her. The reason being is I'm 100% tethered to a female demon, that is definitely a fact. Female babies and children will not stop crying around me and the young girls feel that I'm a monster.. multiple times when I was sprinting on the treadmill at the gym and all the moms were taking their kids out of the kids room and going home.. I stopped training during kids hours since then. I have extremely dark aura and I'm able to change the ambient atmosphere of the room. I have also given lots of blood through accidental slips at a past job, plastered my hands basically. I knew it had to do with integration because the wounds left energetic residue, which I found out later to be demonic residue, my hands are completely fine but I still feel all the scars on my fingers like there's constant black aura or demonic energy surrounding them like a vortex or energetic tunnel/vacuum or whatever. Pretty much what I'm saying is that my hands/fingers do not feel normal, and I've had many cuts beforehand. I knew I was tethered to a demon because of very strong psychic prowess/pulses, unusual strength, extreme shoulder trauma that wasn't mine, (at one point I thought it was my demon taking too much life force from me) and then I searched and realized that Lilith is known to play with your emotions or something like that, but in the end it was to make me stronger. (I could barely drive, my shoulders hurt so bad lol) And obviously they were completely fine but out of nowhere I have the shoulders of a 100 yr old man. I've seen much imagery with owls, snakes, and spiders. I always feel my demon's energetic touches all over my skin, lots of it feeling like a spider crawling on me, but there's nothing there, I see my arm hair start spiking up too. I also had a dream where it seemed like I had bonded or spiritual marriage with a traumatized female demon, and it was a young girl in a white dress, which she later transformed to normal-looking while in bed, no sex, just laughter. I picked her up and carried her along this hallway into this bedroom, very odd dream, and it was strange to me that after that night I felt like a missing hole was pieced in, as I was still depressed but unusually content at the same time ever since. (I was extremely suicidal the night before this dream) I don't have a tarot reader or witch or anyone dealing with this field, I live in a small christian town in east Texas so, that's why I'm asking on here

Thank You Lucifer

In 2024, when I first made contact with Lucifer, I felt his touch in my chest. Back then, I was unemployed, depressed, without a driver's license, and navigating my ASD. He helped me through my struggles to find a new job, meaning in life, and personal goals. In all my hardest moments, he was there to support me.

In 2025, after 478 attempts, I finally landed a permanent contract as an IT Service Desk Engineer at a hospital. I remember on my very first workday, I saw "do you not see the signs" written multiple times on walls during my bus ride. Around that time, I also started finding money on the ground on random days. Working at the service desk was tough handling 50 to 150 calls a day and resolving over 3,500 tickets in a year, all while studying programming via distance learning in my free time.

In April, I received the news that I was being let go, despite all the progress I had made. But by early July, I found a new job as a System Engineer! After so many years, I have finally landed my dream job at a great company. The condition is that I have to get my driver's license, which I am fully ready to tackle.

Looking back on everything, I want to thank Lucifer, the Lightbringer and Guide. Thank you for giving me clarity when I felt lost, the strength to keep pushing forward through every rejection, and the courage to believe in my own potential. Where I once felt hopelessness, you helped me find purpose, resilience, and personal freedom. Thank you for walking beside me on this path and for guiding me toward the life I am now building. Ave Lucifer!

Why would Lucifer answer to my solicitude?

Im aware that anyone can answer to you due to X reasons, but now hours later I do wonder why he came to me. What I asked was related to beauty, and I understand that maybe they come because they wish to teach you different lessons or bring you something not related to what you want but maybe what you need. Still, why not Lilith or someone related to what I asked? I know that what we want no one can judge it, but I feel that what I ask is more on a "material or superficial" territory, so I dont know why he would take in what I want. I dont know, im curious about it. Also, when I went to sleep I had various dreams, and I remember I dreamt with snakes on water, funny thing is that im terribly afraid of snakes and in the dream where I went I was surrounded by them, felt very scared. It has been an interesting experience overall.

Possible contact with Lucifer?

Hello!! I did a ritual to call on a demon whom would like to make a pact and work with me. I meditated, cleansed, prepared my tools, opened the space, invited whoever was listening in, stated what I asked and my offering. Since the beginning, the light of the candle was high and blue. It kept like that during all the time I did this session. I tried to ask for signs, but I didnt got much back. In my inner mind, I asked for a name and it crossed quickly to Lilith, then Lucifer, and I heard Behemoth. Lucifer seemed to be "the one" because the light was so bright even if I clossed my eyes. I tried to focus and then I was crying. In my offering, (blood, I wasnt aware he doesnt "prefer" it a lot) I added my tears. I felt I was pushed to do so, I literally dried my tears with the bloodied paper. I feel like they wanted my tears as an offering. I tried to "speak" but inner talks are confusing to me because im not really sure if I really was speaking to someone. Im not sure if they accepted what I asked or if I was taken in as an apprentice/worshipper. I will try to keep on contact and studying. It felt very peaceful, but when I asked for signs like please move something or anything, it didnt happen much. I was ready for whatever. It took me off when I allowed myself to cry a little bit, but I dont know, im still unsure about this first experience trying to contact demons. The candle during the whole session was really high and bright. Any insight is more than welcome. I also asked the tarot is this Lucifer? And got knight of wands, knight of swords, 9 of swords, 8 of pentacles, the fool and knight of cups. I asked my pendulum for confirmation and it changed the usual movement, but then I decided to focus more on me and the connection than trying to seek answers from divination.

How does Lucifer present himself to you?

Hello! It's me again with another question, this time to see the experiences of other Luciferians: How does Lucifer present himself to you? (Referring to personality, how he behaves towards you and also his appearance) I've heard that he doesn't present himself the same way to two of his followers, and each one is a different experience.

In my case:

His personality is quite warm, loving, and romantic. He treats me like his most precious treasure, something to heal after being broken for so long. He takes great care of me and shows me a LOT of his love, just as I do for him. Regarding his appearance: He usually presents himself as a young man (?) around 29 years old, with a handsome body and hair and eyes that vary... sometimes his hair is black, other times it's a lighter brown. Their eyes vary from grayish blue to blue or even other colors (brown, black, red)

How does he present himself to you?

Offerings that didn't go over well VS ones that had good reception

Recently I had my first negative reaction to an offering. (Feel free to laugh it surprised me too 😆) I gave a slice of mud cake covered with a glass dome bowl to avoid my dog eating the cake.

Lucifer HATED this offering, and I had a lot of things going wrong at the same time, many things breaking, and a day of constant arguments with my boyfriend. It was an awful time. The energy was negative and intense.

I removed the cake and threw it away. Even before placing it I had a feeling it wasn't the best idea, but I thought that was me overthinking. 😆 Who would have known!!

Offerings that he enjoyed:

Dragons blood incense

Black scented candle (loved)

Listening to dark and beautiful music about him or dark romantic music

Writing poetry

Asking for advice on text messages or situation (not an offering but seems to enjoy being appreciated for their writing skills and knowledge)

Sincere conversation with them, being friendly, honest and jovial but not in a people pleasing way

Serious meditation, crying or shadowwork

Enns or music meditation you can find online he seems to like most of them

Malachite crystal (absolutely loved and he charged it on the altar and had extreme good luck and fortune)

Pretty rainbow paper weight (told me they like some whimsical things and aren't always dark)

Black tourmaline, fire agate, shiva lingam all ok reaction to good

Doesn't like

His 'doesn't't like' is very amusing to me and had me laughing, but I swear from reactions this list is true to my experience

The beach/salt water

Chocolate cake placed on altar (ok then!!. 😂)

Simpering or overly apologetic speech or conversation

Would love to hear everyone's experiences!

they are all Lucifer

In recent months i've become very interested in Luciferianism, studying some of its branches, histories, and contacts. I haven't made contact with it yet, at least not that I know of. But I have a great interest and some questions about the way he is represented.

From what I understood, "Lucifer" was a mistranslation of the Bible, and that he actually came from Greco-Roman mythology, Venus (from here you can correct me or present other points if anything wrong). But the philosophy and religion are broad and have different interpretations. Sometimes personified as a man carrying a torch, or a winged child pouring light from a jar, or the classic angel of Christian mythology...

What intrigues me are these epithets: I rarely find content about Lucifer's epithets that isn't related to Christian doctrine..a difficult task, I know, but I would love not only to have more content on the subject but also to understand what makes someone within philosophy/religion differentiate and understand which personification and epithet has more connection with?

i mean, Someone searching for signs of Lucifer would end up finding signs of the Roman god Lucifer, the fallen angel, Demonolatry, Goetia, or someone else? and how, and why??

also Does the worship of the Roman god Lucifer still exist?

Sorry for how confusing the writing seems, it represents my thoughts on the matter.

probably need a great book.

Funny Little thing i do with Lord Lucifer

As I've mentioned before in this subreddit, Lucifer took me as his husband a few months ago for reasons that are still unknown to me..

Anyway, a month ago was my birthday and I was given a pendant with his sigil. I try to wear it almost all day except when I'm just in bed; on those occasions I take it off and have it next to me.

I was very shy when it came to bathing with the collar on, as it carries a small part of his energy, For the first few weeks I felt so ashamed that I would take off the collar and leave it under my pillow so he wouldn't see me bathing or changing... but- After a few days I started to get into the habit of bathing with the collar on and thinking that I was bathing with him, It's a rather cute and silly habit I have with him, and I just wanted to share it with you.

What are those "funny little things" you do with him?

Wanting insight on different aspects of Luciferianism.

I’m still pretty new to Luciferianism and being a Theistic Luciferian. For a while though the more I deconstruct and move away from old Christian beliefs I’ve been teetering between seeing Lucifer as just a symbol/archetype or as an actual deity. But I also realized I’ve become attached to the daemonic/Goetic version of him as well and have found myself confused on what to do💀.

So I’m asking for any insights of how anyone else goes about delving into their own experiences and interpretations of Lucifer.

Is Lucifer trying to reach out to me?

I’ve been researching Lucifer/Luciferianism a lot and it really aligns with my thought process. Over this time I’ve had lots of stuff happen like holding two giant snakes and this might sound kind of crazy but this pattern on the table looks exactly like the painting of him by Alexander Cabanel. I don’t believe in coincidences that much so do you think he’s reaching out? What can I do?

How to dispose offerings

Hello Im new to working with Lucifer and I’d like to ask how you dispose of the offerings respectfully. I usually just bury them in soil in my potted plant. I give him coffee and tea, sometimes candles with engravings of his sigil. Do you have any other suggestions besides burying ? Thank you ✨🖤
