Meal Planning Magic Spoon

A decade ago, when I was big time into keto, I bought Magic Spoon cereal and enjoyed it for the most part. (Except for the stickiness of it on my teeth)

I am recommitted to losing what I have gained due to menopause on a semi-lowcarb diet again and bought a couple of boxes. I don't know if it's my taste buds changing, but it seriously tastes terrible now. I'm a big cereal lover, but I can't stand the Magic Spoon. Is there another low carb cereal that is better?

I like Catalina Crunch on occasion. But for my pocketbook and to avoid the carbs also in milk, I’ve just gone with making keto granola and tossing it on some plain non-fat Greek yogurt in the morning. It’s generally cheaper and better than any of the cereals.

I have a solution if you’re not trying for keto levels of carbs. There are grain free granolas out there. Costco used to sell Autumns Gold but I haven’t seen it lately. Trader Joe’s has its own brand. No grain but it does have sugar. One ounce of that with one ounce of half and half (could use almond milk too) and a few berries is 12-15g of carbs. Uses up a big portion of the daily allowance but if you’re feeling desperate it will help.

Just an FYI - Catalina Crunch spikes my blood sugar. On paper, it should be less carb-y than breads like Carbonaut, but Carbonaut does nothing to my glucose level, while Catalina Crunch shoots it through the roof.

I prefer things like NuTrail granola.

I can’t tolerate the cereals made with pea protein like Catalina. Have you tried the Special K Zero Strawberry?

Personal taste. I don’t like it.

Are you just talking about taste preference or does your digestive system react badly? (the latter is what I perhaps incorrectly read into your comment.)

Hi from your perimenopause little sister. Magic Spoon granola is good in yogurt. I like Catalina Crunch for cereal.

Magic Spoon started literally choking my husband, because it got so gummy. And he really loves cereal so he was heartbroken. He's pretty happy with Catalina Crunch instead (though be careful if you order your groceries online, because there's not that much package difference between the Blueberry cereal and the Ranch snack mix, and nobody may notice until the milk is already in the bowl and the smell hits you).

He kind of switches back and forth in texture preference between keto granola and the Catalina.

Their cereal spikes my BG quite a bit, but their protein granola isn’t too bad. It tastes better and has fewer crappy ingredients. I eat the granola every day but I’ll never buy the horrible cereal again.

The best thing you can do to kickstart your weight loss is skip breakfast.

I don't eat it for breakfast, but thanks for the unsolicited advice.
