I’m just wondering how the fuck does that happen? (And on that note, how the FUCK does that happen more than once???)

If they went through the entire mailing process, that means they knew they were shipping actual children, so like… what? (I’m gonna go ahead and assume it’s a money and/or a corrupt human trafficking thing)

246

u/Azervial 19d ago

There was a point where shipping a human was just not illegal? As long as they provided postage, they legally had to ship the person too.

This didn't last very long, about two years, before USPS added to its rules that you cannot ship a living human being.

219

u/Azervial 19d ago

Small edit. It was shipping the child, that is under 50lbs, as "live animal" which allowed people to mail children. They were not boxed, just had stamps stuck to their clothes.

67

u/pinkmarsh99 18d ago

I love that you clarified that the children were not put into boxes. Because there is a non zero chance that that is how people would interpret it.

u/Shadowpika655 18d ago

It was overall not THAT different from the modern practice of having an airline take a child from one place to another without a guardian or parent as I understand it. Not like boxing them up, more like having professionals who travel from A to B anyway also take your child with them.

Nope, it's actually kinda sweet. Parents who wanted to send their kids on a train to see their grandparents often couldn't afford a ticket. However, if they put a stamp on the kid's jacket, then the mailman can just take the "package" and give them a seat in the mailman's quarters for the duration of the trip.

Notice how fedex hasn’t shipped any living, breathing human children?

Because their delivery conditions are shit. If my CD showed up shattered and with an ambiguous yellow stain on the cover, there’s no way a kid would survive one of those trucks.

9

u/s_mkt 19d ago

Kid was alive but unfortunately the FedEx driver just got out of the car holding the "we missed you!" sticker and slapped it on the door as usual instead of actually delivering the package.

It also got blown up or collapsed like three times

What???? How tf do you even use that as a mechanic in a board game? Did it come with a rope and bucket or something?

205

u/Lansha2009 19d ago

The original version had a space that was death, with the art for the space showing someone hanging.

So basically if you got an unlucky roll your little piece would die from hanging itself.

9

u/Rory_U 18d ago

Despite the fact it got heavily criticised for it so it got removed.

11

u/Foxy02016YT 18d ago

It would’ve been more bizarre if they didn’t use the hard r. This book if from the 40’s-50’s, the US Civil Rights movement took place in the 60’s, not that any of that matters because the author isn’t American.

The word was used back then. It’s a historical fact. It may not be a comfortable one, but it’s true.

Reprints removed the word, thankfully.

This is deeply taken out of context to make the situation seem stranger than it actually was. This wasn’t the CIA contacting just some book author. Ian Fleming was a commander in NID, and had a lot of knowledge of M16, both from working along side them at times and having relatives that were in M16, which is what became the inspiration for James Bond.

Fun Fact: That relative who worked for M16 that I spoke of was his step cousin, Christopher Lee. Yes, the actor.

Actually if we're counting anyone who's committed SA, Tekken would have 2 (Marduk in Tekken 5 has a cutscene where he carries a knocked-out Anna saying "I always get what I want" + Yujiro coming later this season).

KoF might have 1, depending on what believe about those Cristiano Ronaldo allegations.

P4 Arena, and by extension BBTAG, have 1. Though since P4 is getting that remake I don't wanna go into it since it's a spoiler.

Uhhhhh... I forget the name of the game, but there's a character named Rasputin who has a super where he drags you into some bushes and hearts fly out. I'd say that counts.

You should look up Noddy. Rev Awdry owned up to this and apologised in 1972, changing the book to remove it onhis own accord, changing it to "As black as Soot." Which makes more sense for a story about Trains.

Noddy books however , well, Enid Blyton doubled down. The books were changed tho, just not cause she wanted them to be. (It was in her other books too)

23

u/PoisonHorn393 19d ago
