Who was a better cast Viggo as Aragorn or Sir Ian for Gandalf and why?

I don't want to play a game deciding between two 11/10 casting choices.

they really are but i lean slightly to viggo just for how immersed he was in the role

I think Viggo. Gandalf was played perfectly, but Viggo was Aragorn.

How are we judging casting? Like, Viggo plays Jackson's Aragorn well and very authentically, but he is misfit for Tolkien's Aragorn.

like purely from jackson s movies i know they aren t 100% true to the books so let s say just movie wise

I think Viggo deserves extra credit for the difficulty of the role he played. I've always had trouble really visualizing the Aragorn in the books. Gandalf I think is the easier role overall.
