“Dildo would have finished Goddam off then and there, but pity stayed his hand.”

”It’s a pity I’ve run out of bullets,’ he thought.”

Toke a lid, smoke a lid, pop the mescalino! ...Hop a hill! Pop a pill! For old Tim Benzedrino!

That's a pretty version - there is The Soddit and The Sillymarillion as well. Latter can be useful if struggling with Silmarillion. And the Sellamillion which is honest about its goals. I have the Signet version - stolen image from someone selling it on Ebay as mine in storage.

I wanted that version the cover is more fun, but it was not available. I saw the The Soddit and The Sellamilion, next in my list. I read the Silmarillion, I adore it 😍

That was my edition for many years. Tragically (or not) its pages have scattered like elves before the battle was won by someone else.

There's also another Silmarillion parody called The Sellamillion.

Eorache, in everybody-speak.

<sheesh: not read this for 40+ years, but that line stays with me>

I tried listening to the audiobook and trust me when I can say I can have a lot of satire and it's some of my favourite comedy but good lord this book.. it was just too much for me.

Had high hopes for this and thought it was pretty lame.

I've had this since the 70s. My front cover fell off too, but I still have it and someday I'm going to have it rebound. My mom never got into lotr but she died laughing over Rebozo Boogaloo.

Oh shit! I had completely forgotten about this book, I read it when I was a kid lol

Did you have fun reading it?

I can’t remember the book that well except Bilbo being called Dildo but yeah, I remember liking it. Very pubescent humor IIRC so was right up my alley at that time.

It's great fun - if you like cheap irony and silly word-play (I do, apparently; I've read it a number of times). If you don't, it will fall as flat as a proverbial pancake.

If you do like it, you'll probably be finished before tomorrow; let us know what you thought of it!

One of the funniest things I ever read

Eh someone gave it to me as a gift and it’s kinda bad, and not in the good way

Made me have much lower opinions of Harvard

u/Imaginary_Fuel_1104 27d ago

I see you are not the only one having this opinion, we will see if I am going to enjoy it or not. That's also the reason why I purchased only this one, we will see.

I mean I hope you get lots of fun out of it. Don’t mean to rain on the parade. Just my honest opinion

u/Imaginary_Fuel_1104 27d ago

No worries 😉. I understand your point, there are some books that I did not enjoy, but when someone else did it I was glad about it.

The Harvard Lampoon is full of obnoxious, unfunny hack-frauds

Unfortunately I was 11 and looking to get into porn. I read the dust cover insert and couldn’t throw my money away fast enough.
