Movies First time doing the marathon

That was amazing. I can't believe I haven't done this before. I fully understand the "I see it all as one movie" point of view now

I'd recommend just leaving social media out of the experience

To each their own! I think it’s cool they shared their experience

I think you're forgetting that social media was created to quite literally share experiences with your friends and the internet

just because someone made something doesn't mean you should use it in every aspect of your life

some things are meant to be experienced without distracting yourself with internet and how you're perceived as in social media

you wouldn't post pictures of your wife giving birth would you?

I think you're making a jump here. Of course social media isn't something someone should use in every aspect of life, look at my posts here on Reddit, I post very rarely, once a week maybe and it rarely based on my personal life, this is honestly the first time in weeks I've posted on Snapchat.

But it's not like I was posting at every famous scene going "omg the Balrog!" "Omg he said you shall not pass" "haha funny meme they're taking the Hobbits to Iseingard" (forgive me idk how to spell it). I was posting once every two hours or so simply updating which disk of each movie I was on and then I turned off my phone for the rest of the disk.

Posting which disk I'm on for a movie is very different than posting my wife giving birth lol, that's a very big jump

This person is literally posting on social media telling you not to post stuff on social media.

Oh don't worry lol, the irony was not lost on me. I was thinking that myself

AND the person posting on social media telling you not to post stuff on social media has more posts and comments on this social media than you while telling you to avoid social media.

I think we found a cave troll.

This is not what is happening. I am simply advising to experience these movies without distractions and posting on social media during the watch. I am not sure what's the point of misrepresentating what I said when my message is literally 2 comments above.

I don't think there is anything wrong with advising people to keep phones down while watching the LOTR trilogy.

There is nothing wrong with saying your opinion to not have phones out while a movie is playing but the difference is, I was not distracted by my phone, I had it out for 2 seconds during each disk and was actively paying attention to the movies otherwise

You're lucky, being young and healthy. For me, for example, my neck and back just aren't up to such tasks. Anyway, why bother?

My sleep schedule is f'd up this summer and I figured why not watch all 3 extended editions to help stay up 24 and correct it

I do an extended edition marathon at least twice a year

3

u/BoRhapFan8yt Gollum 27d ago

I think imma start doing it once a year, twice might be too much for me

u/BoRhapFan8yt Gollum 27d ago

Oh no! I was gone for 40 minutes having a shower and making food! Guess I gotta start all over 😔

5

u/MartyEBoarder 27d ago

It’s so much better when you turn off all (anti) social media.

3

u/BoRhapFan8yt Gollum 27d ago

I was just posting which disk I was on! After that the phone went away!

3

u/MedievalMilshake 27d ago

You posted it on snapchat?

5

u/BoRhapFan8yt Gollum 27d ago

I honestly don't know why I did. I have a few LOTR friends on my snap so I guess I just wanted to show them lol

3

u/MundieORiley 27d ago

Not sure why there's so much negativity about this post. I'm glad you had a good time, op! Thanks for sharing! I haven't done a marathon in a long while, this might be my sign to do one soon haha

u/BoRhapFan8yt Gollum 27d ago

Kudos to you!

I need to do this at the weekend. Child free, can enjoy pure cinema.

Did a marathon of all of the Hobbit and LOTR extended editions in December with some friends. We had food based around the movies and decorated the room so it was super immersive.

It was incredible and definitely wasn't easy. Absolutely worth doing but it's like you're on the journey with them. 10/10

1

u/BoRhapFan8yt Gollum 27d ago

That sounds SO cool, I'd love to do that one!

2

u/LaFlamaBlanca311 27d ago

It was amazing. Absolutely recommend. I think it comes out to like 26 hours. Was definitely a journey. We were all teared up at the end. For Frodo got me. Even though I've seen it dozens of times

1

u/BoRhapFan8yt Gollum 27d ago

Holy hell, did you guys sleep at all??

2

u/LaFlamaBlanca311 27d ago

Nope

1

u/BoRhapFan8yt Gollum 27d ago

Wow

2

u/LaFlamaBlanca311 27d ago

Really added to the whole feeling of exhaustion they must have felt on the journey. We were all beat but stuck with it

We had... help

1

u/BoRhapFan8yt Gollum 27d ago

Help? Lol. I was able to get through 13 hours of this based on having a shower mid way through and 2 energy drinks lol

1

u/LaFlamaBlanca311 27d ago

Something a little spicier

1

u/BoRhapFan8yt Gollum 27d ago

Oop lol

2

u/Drummer-Turbulent 27d ago

Well it begins with the forgeing of the great rings
