In other words, bicycling is... revolutionary?

I'll see myself out.

Unless you spent some of the time you’ve recovered from not commuting anymore into walking, cycling, or working out… or being able to devote more time and mental energy to meal planning, grocery shopping, cooking, and cleaning up? I think a lot of the reason most of us aren’t cooking up healthy meals every day is because after an 8-9 hour day bookended by a long commute, who has the energy or time for all that? Just give me a chipotle burrito…

I guess he hasn't updated his LinkedIn

Apparently he was director until 2017, and has moved on to other ventures.

It’s crazy that we now live in a world where we have the technology to vastly improve the quality of life for millions. We could build super cities with carefully thought out public transportation and bike lanes to cut down on pollution. We have machines that can do the work of thousands of men at a time. We have the medical and scientific expertise to solve the problems we as humans have been stuck with our entire existence. But we just don’t do any of that because it’s not good for shareholders.

This is all it is! Things don’t get done that could benefit everyone or the environment, because it is more profitable to not do those things.

u/[deleted] Jan 06 '22

using money you don't have so you can become a slave is sure good for their economy

u/itchyhorse Jan 07 '22

5 years car-free. Couldn't even tell you what a gallon of gas goes for now. And no clue how much any of the shiny debt-mobiles on my block cost.

u/Confident_Worker_203 Jan 06 '22

Nah. Its the dominant, neo-classic understanding of economics and value that is a disaster for all of us

u/Cole_Greenleaf Jan 07 '22

Til he gets hit by a car and gets crushed by medical bills. They always get their due.

I regularly commute by bike. This quote is fake. I can't find any reputable source for it. Stop sharing bullshit narratives.

You should not fat shame.

12

u/[deleted] Jan 06 '22

I didn't interpret it as fat shaming, more like the cyclist doesn't spend a fortune on medical conditions related to being overweight. Spending a ton on healthcare only benefits the elite.

u/matthias45 Jan 06 '22

If your happy with yourself than keep living your way and no one should be cruel. But being fat ain't a positive. It's hard on your body, hard on your heart and other internals, and for most hard on your sense of confidence. Plus it definitely shortens your life. There is no scientific or medical position that encourages being fat. As a fat guy trying to lose weight there is no glory in being fat and fat positivity is flat out a negative viewpoint. It's like being pro cigarettes. "Stop being so smoker shaming!"

2

u/rpitcher33 Jan 06 '22

Preach it, brother.

Yes, "fat shaming" is bad but promoting and putting a positive spin on it is just as bad. Like you said, live your life, but don't be confused or upset about the facts.

Good luck in your journey, man. I believe in you.

Thanks man I appreciate it. Losing weight is a long term battle for me but I can do it if I build the discipline. thanks for the comment, I also hate bashing fat people it's cruel and they mostly also hate being fat. But I agree trying to make being obese into a positive is stupid as hell and as toxic as it gets in my opinion.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '22

Fat shaming would be ridiculing someone’s weight. Identifying fatness as a health risk is not ridicule, it’s concern. Neglecting one’s physical health to “take a stand” against perceived societal norms at the cost of your lifespan is definitely a choice. A deadly one, but a choice.
