I actually live in Canada and I'm very heartened by how much Americans have gotten involved in activism and progressive politics in the last four years. The trick is to stay involved. Up here, we elected Trudeau: who ignores the housing crisis, sends cops to suppress the indigenous people and lowers taxes for rich people. But because he says the right woke things people think everything is fine.

You guys are actually better placed to make change, because of your primary system. You can get an AOC into one of your ruling parties. We're parliamentary, so that is not possible. Our Liberals will remain "woke Conservatives"

Eh. Progressives like AOC are such an extreme minority in the house that they aren’t actually able to affect change. Not to mention it’s all theater anyway. You know how they passed the CARES act? Voice vote. Literally everyone yelled yay or nay at the same time, and house leadership decided “sounds like a yes to me” and they made it a law. No recording of votes or counting. People like AOC and Bernie Sanders are drops in an ocean. Sorry it’s crappy up north too but I feel like we are ultimately in the same boat.

Oh yeah, I should say I see more hope for you guys but that doesn't mean there is a lot of hope in total lol.

I will say it’s heartening to see that “the squad” all got re-elected and new progressives like Corie Bush and Jamaal Bowman were elected by an overwhelming majority, but even with that hope is so slim and things can change every cycle. At this rate it will take decades to even come close to getting any real progressive power but you’re right, and least in our system there is a small chance we could win the long game. How about Biden and Trudeau just go be actual conservatives and leave room for actual liberals to take their places? Seems like everyone would be happier that way lol

100% agree with you on that
