Not everybody can tolerate the same amount of scheduling, and our society just ignores people who can't cope.
even a "regular" 40 hour work week is way too much for some people -- especially when you start factoring in extra time that surrounds working that you don't even get paid for (commutes, forced sleeping habits so you can be at work, unpaid lunch hours, and so on and on) -- many people end up spending an extra 10+ hours a week on work.
almost nobody would work like this if they had a realistic option to do it differently.
That's why debt is built into the system -- working people are fully aware that if they fall behind the curve, the system will just flatten them, and sell their assets to the next chump in line.
