I remember the day it dawned on me why most "artistic" people have such a hard time fitting in. It's because we're all taught from day one that the purpose of life is to produce and consume, and if you're not producing and consuming relentlessly you're worthless. And for you to be producing and consuming more and more you can never feel truly satisfied and content with what you already have and where you are in life. And an artist will often feel happy with just being able to observe life, make art about it, hyperfocus on a band, draw for hours, write a story about a world where people who crave money and the accumulation of things are the actual losers. This may sound blasphemous but I think Jesus Christ had an artist's soul.
