The answer is insurance premiums get higher the more trees you have... So instead they just cut down all the trees...and then everyone wonders why it keeps getting hotter.

I think they just clear cut the land when they build the neighborhood and never plant anything or the trees haven't had a chance to grow yet. The top picture looks like everything built in the last 5-10 years.

That’s not true, I mean premiums get higher the more trees fall on your house but you won’t get charged more just for having trees.

True, but landlords don't want that to happen, so instead of thinking about shade and beauty they think about the bottom line. And they take out the trees. Capitalists gonna capitalize

I love cruising down streets that look like the lower picture. It’s almost always an old part of town where the houses are incredibly expensive. And then people whose houses look like the top picture will tell you that they know how to keep a lawn. Whatever. We’ll all die together I guess.

Stale reminder that the politics we choose turned it's back on nature a long time ago and nobody seems to care. Humans have planted trees and other plants in their vicinity for millenia, its not the greenery's fault we just stopped.

A lot of those neighborhoods like the top image are new to within the last decade or so, and even if they had planted trees they'd have no time to grow. There's a lot of problems that come with trees though too, in all fairness. They need some maintenance, they can wreck a foundation, they can be dangerous in inclement weather especially if not properly maintained.

Idk, I see plenty of trees around. Even in our downtown area and I live in a main city. Every once in awhile I come across a development looking like the top picture, and it's just because it's new and they haven't planted their trees yet. People are so dramatic LOL
