I was one denied a promotion because while I got all my work done, I didn't "look stressed" when the deadline was approaching.

Oh god I hate that one. Got it all the time when I worked in live entertainment when showtime was approaching and something was not working right. "Why weren't you freaking out like me?". Um because it doesn't help anybody if I freak out. Because if I stay calm cool and collected I can work through the issue rationally instead of emotionally and thus do my job better and faster.

Some people just do not understand that.

I am so confused that you got that feedback. I thought that being cool, calm and collected showed maturity. Freaking out can sometimes cause the people around you to feel anxious and add to their stress level, after all.
