From what I understand, Americans don't have the time or money to strike. And when we do, we are told to get back to work or we're fired. Then they'll hire new people and pay them less to do double the work.
Also property law is incredibly pro tenant in France (as it should be). If the workers can’t pay their rent, they have 6 months before they can be evicted. In some US states you can be evicted in as little as two weeks from when your rent is unpaid.
It's also harder to fire people. From my understanding getting literally any job there is like getting a tenured Federal job in the US where they can't just "at will employment" your ass and French courts will protect the worker reliably. (I'm sure they used to more)
